The 80s certainly had their moments, but in terms of creativity and societal significance seemed kinda pale compared to the late 60s to mid 70s.
They were an improvement over the late 70s.

And then, in 1982, in the very oldfashioned "Hitparade" on the ZDF (Second national TV channel), where usually all the classic german Schlager music got presented - always live! - TRIO broke their first and biggest hit. The crowd really did not understand what the hell that was. But this song was a worldwide hit.
