The 50 Richest Members of Congress

What I don't agree with is greed and corruption.

If someone becomes wealthy the right way then that's fine with me.

Exactly!

The nature of business is not to make more, more, more.
It shouldn't be.

Treat your employees right, pay your bills, make a product that people want and make it well.

If you make a lot of money do something good with it.

I agree with your sentiments entirely, but your talking about ethics, and that's dependant on the induvidual who's making money, you can't regulate it through some kind of law.

Unfortunately the exact nature of buisness is to make as much proffit as possible, maybe it shouldn't be, but that's how it is.

....which is almost nobody, and that's a huge part of the problem.

I guess it depends on what you'd consider wealthy. If your idea of wealthy is lots of "bling", lots of "bitches", huge mansions, your own private 747, a collection of supercars, you know, things that you could only get if you had as much money as a druglord, then yeah, almost nobody gets that wealthy the "right way" (which is....what is the right way anyway?) because you can live a comfortable life without being that ridiculously rich. And lots of people, yours truly included, have reached that level where we live comfortably, not enough to start some kind of foundation to help others, but at least we don't need to be helped, just don't put any more barriers in our way, and we're less of a burden to those who want to help the less fortunate.

Even then almost all the wealthy people in the world have benefited from the exploitation of others in indirect ways. Pretending otherwise is pretty is naive and silly. They just use methods that can't be directly tied to them or other entities that work for them in some manner. Business has become a mechanism for getting individual wealth without individual responsibility. Nobody makes money in a vacuum. Nobody makes it in life by themselves. Even the poor indirectly benefit from the exploitation of other poor people, but at least with them they really have little choice, because they have to survive and have little say in their society to try to change it. The people with more wealth don't have an excuse. The people that actively encourage and continue the system were that takes place are even worse.

WillE, seeing as the Founding Fathers were all rich men....has anything really changed in 230 years?

Your sentimentalism is quaint. I bet you've got the entire DVD collection of this show tucked under your pillow

Well Said!

Just wondering, did anyone else notice that the majority are from the party that says it's "fighting for the working man?" Go figure! :dunno:

28 Democrats 22 Republicans:dunno:, this is a party line thing?

I'm still not sure where the thread is going? So there are wealthy people in politics, haven't there always been?

Conspiracy...

My sentiment is what this country needs.

It's not my fault you can't live a simpler life.

That's why liberals love New York City and LA.
The rest of the country is referred to as "fly over" country.
A group of hypocrites.

You know, it says a lot when a democrat, elected and employed by the people, is making millions.

Yes, it does.

I'll gladly take the job for $80,000 to $100,000 a year.

That's not even a fourth of what they make.
I'm a bargain. ;)

Actually, yes, I did notice that. And by the same token, those from the party that claims to have the best ideas on how to create wealth don't seem to be as good at creating wealth for themselves.

But to be honest, if people take a step back from political philosophies, I think what they'll really notice is that those who make it to Congress (especially the Senate) are very good at taking care of themselves, whatever they do for the middle class (which is very little, IMO).

Well,we've settled that Rich People have always run American Gov't from founding to present. Why the founding fathers didn't share your sentimentality and settled instead in American city/trade centers probably confirms a reality about humanity that you choose to ignore...:dunno:

Yeah...why can't I vote myself a raise? :dunno:

^^^Exactly.

Imagine if you fucked up at your job and your company was floundering... yet you could still vote yourself a raise (in the middle of the night)!

While I have no use for the Wall St. bankers who raped, pillaged, screwed the pooch and then came to D.C. with their tin cups in hand when things went sour, was it really any different than how Congress operates?

Whether they're Democrats or Republicans, you almost have to laugh when these gas bag hypocrites pound on their desks in hoiler than thou fashion.
