Texas Just Signed Mario Williams, Pass on Bush

I think it might have been a better choice. It might be a little of a public relations hit but you shouldn't build your team with that in mind. I would have thought Ferguson was a good choice also for them also. I just wonder how it would mess up every body else’s choices.

  unbelievable! No Bush? No Young? Texans need someone like either of those guys on offense. No matter, I'm a Cowboys fan anyway, hope they can get Bush though I'm sure just he's going to be taken second then.

The Texans truly made the worst possible decision of taking Mario Williams over Reggie Bush, and possibly the worst decision ever EVER made by a franchise in any sport. It's one thing to pass up Bush for local boy Vince Young, but when the Texans walk out of this draft with neither Bush, Young, Matt Leinhart, nor even an offensive tackle that they could have used to protect their QB... wow, they have crippled their franchise for years to come.

If money was an issue, couldn't Bush, an electrifying player recoup the monies by bringing the fans BACK? Certainly Mario Williams has talent, but he will forever be known as the guy the Texans selected instead of Bush; Williams' talent comparisions have been to players like Julius Peppers whereas Bush's has been to legend Gayle Sayers. Talent like Bush's comes once a generation, people...

The Texans are now on the clock with next year's number one draft selection because they didn't ugrade their offense.....

That's quite possible, but it wouldn't be the first time I have heard things like that, the person doesn't pan out, and then a couple of years later nobody even talks about the person anymore. I think people go overboard with preordaining greatness from athletes before it happens. That said Bush probably was the better player, but predicting he was the best person for the team to pick is a harder thing to do.

I disagree with you some Satyr... one never truly knows how a player is going to turn out once drafted. Right know, Matt Leinhart is slipping in the minds of scouts... there is a question of his arm strength and how he'll hold up for the teams who don't have good pass protection.

As far as money... the amount of revenue Reggie Bush will generate in ticket sales doesn't matter.... his asking price was too much against Houston's salary cap. If they sign Bush.... they pretty much can't afford to sign anyone else. He may be the next Gayle Sayers... but there are plenty of great running backs in the league right now and only more to come in the future (Dominick Davies ain't no slouch either). Superbowls are won at the of the line of scrimmage, both o-line and d-line. That's why San Diego (with LT) and the Chiefs (Larry Johnson) were sitting at home when Pittsburgh won the superbowl with little Willie Parker.... who ran for more yards than MVP Sean Alexander.

I'll be the first to say it, and obviously the first flamed for it... I think Vince Young will be a bust. For some reason, whenever I see him, I just think Andre Ware. Anyway, my predicition is that if Young does find success in the NFL, it wont be at quarterback.

I share your thoughts on Young. He went to a system where he can thrive, so who knows. I just don't think he'll be the superstar everyone thinks he'll be.

I agree 100%. A talent like Reggie Bush comes along once in a generation while pass-rushing DEs are fairly common. Very questionable move by the Texans they will likely some day regret. I have no doubt Mario Williams will be a great player, but Reggie Bush is going to be an unbelievable player in the NFL ala Gale Sayers, Barry Sanders, Billy Sims....you cannot pass up a talent this rare and that's what the Texans did. Big mistake. They drafted for need instead of taking the best player available....the same "logic" that encouraged the Portland Trailblazers to draft Sam Bowie (because they needed a center) instead of Michael Jordan back in 1984.

Time will tell and I could be wrong but I'll bet I'm not. The Saints must be pinching themselves. Oh, and it wasn't about money either....Kubiak had convinced McNair that Williams was the guy to get no matter what. Granted, their defense is horrible but their offense was non-existent. Bush would have been a touchdown-maker for them but they opted for defense.

How many points do you get for a sack, anyway?

:dunno: :wtf: :dunno:

Worse yet, the Texans didn't realize that their defense was always scored on because the offense went 3-and-out all the time; Bush was going to a threat on almost any play...

I will be following the Saints this year; they have a USC-esque backfield now with Duece McAllister and Bush...Plus Joe Horn on the wing...

And didn't Arizona and Tennessee have great drafts?

Not sure about the move either. They should have traded down if they really didn't want him. Davis is a great back, so I can understand not going after him, but why waste a 1 pick on a DE?

The Texans priced themselves out of Bush (They low-balled on the contract), and priced themselves out of draft picks from the Jets (by asking for too much); I can't wait to see Bush do a Bo Jackson on Williams by blowing past him on the outside and going in for a score......

Really, one of the worst drafts I ever seen...

They are morons who must like to lose and will continue to loose! they consistently put a crappy team on the field and the least they can hop to do is sell tickets to keep the fans interested! nobody in houston gives a crap about williams BUT.............reggie bush would have put some asses in the seats and would have attraced the networks to televise their games more!! what morons, have fun losing!!!:fight:

I agree again. Their defense was already dead-tired by halftime. By the way, Reggie will be the only former Trojan in the Saints' backfield. McAllister is from Ol' Miss and Joe Horn only went to junior college.

The papers and talk shows in Houston are saying that it was not a money issue with Bush. Kubiak convinced McNair that Mario Williams was the guy he needed above and beyond Reggie Bush. I know that sounds incredible, but it's true.

I **** to say this but I will still be rooting for the Texans since they are my home team but, as a Texan fan, I am very discouraged right now.

:( :(

Well, that sounds pretty stupid. Having the first pick and not working it to the best of their advantage. Too bad, since they need all the help they can get. Carr may not last another two years if he keeps taking the ***** he did last year. I'm glad I'm not a Houston fan.

Yeah the only saving grace is that they did need a lot of help on defense so we can only get better there. Also, they drafted 2 stud o-linemen in the 3rd round (Charles Spencer from Pitt, Eric Winston from Miami) so that will definitely help up front.

Trying to find the silver lining....

I realize that Houston needed help on both sides of the ball, so either way they're going to get some help. The Texans, in my opinion, made a bad football decision, but more importantly a horrible business decision. Bush would have brought a far greater return on investment in the form of ticket/merchandise sales. He would have brought excitement to a new franchise that could use some help in this department. He would have been a face for the team and a marketing tool for the organization. Williams might be a great player, but he'll never generate the buzz and excitement that Bush would have.
