More than 755,000 on US terrorist watch list

The US terrorist watch list includes more than 755,000 names and continues to grow, the US Government Accountability Office said Wednesday.

The list exploded from fewer than 20 entries before the September 11, 2001, attacks to more than 150,000 just a few months later, after the Terrorist Screening Center (TSC) was created in December 2003 to keep tabs on terrorist suspects, according to the GAO, the non-partisan investigative arm of Congress.

Including known pseudonyms of suspects, the list's 755,000 names as of May 2007 represents, in fact, around 300,000 people, according to TSC estimates.

It wouldn't surprise me to find that The Man has given me that label, simply because so much of my Internet traffic is encrypted and has been for some time now. Not that I have anything to hide, really... well, ok, maybe a porn addiction. That's nothing unusual, though.

Anything that wastes the government's time is good in my book. If they spend their time cracking encrypted but harmless traffic, then that's a good thing. This administration has proven itself to be not much better than the folks we're supposed to be afraid of, IMO.

My name (first, middle, and last) isn't even close to the most common, but a lot more women have the exact same combination than you'd think.

And did you hear that the congress overwhelmingly except for good guys like Russ Feingold just voted to grant the communication industry giants immunity for giving out peoples personal phone stuff and such without warrants based on the govt.'s claim they are hunting terrorists.Now the real truth of what was done by the current administration will never come out maybe on this important breach of our liberty's.Some will say if you have nothing to hide why should you worry,its because power corrupts, always does,always will.Thats how things like the abuses we have seen in the past happened like Nixon he used the govt to get his enemies.
