Tablet and Desktop Advice Combo Advice

Was talking on the phone with my daughter about her first day in seventh grade today, and to keep up with technology she is asking for a tablet/laptop combo for school. Need advice on anyone here familiar with laptop/tablet combo to buy.

Just MicroSoft products as Apple is going to hell recently with Steve Jobs death as their products are dying from the this BS ads (see below video) a couple of years ago going vs MicroSoft with the recent hacking of photos on their I-Cloud and problems with I-Phones maps direction.

Any Microsoft combos advice no more then $350 anyone?

That is a little over $350, but includes Office Home and Student.

Asus isn't one of my favourite brands, but it is the full Windows 8.1 not the RT and the ARM processor, so it will run everything that normal Windows will run. Seems to have good reviews, and Asus used to make fair motherboards. I don't know, but that will probably be dog slow. For that price you might be better off with a laptop instead of a combo, it won't have the cool factor, but it will run a little better and have more storage.

With the school's curriculum having the student with something to use that is mobile with computers according to your advice I'm going have to have her Mom kick in some money on the child support I'm paying to get her to give to our daughter the technology that is current with the school curriculum.

I have never used that model, but a little more money, if you can swing it, will boost your options quite a bit. I do highly recommend you avoid the ARM processor, as it only runs 8.1 RT that means it can only run software compiled for ARM devices. The cheaper tablets will be ARM and RT, the Asus surprised me really wasn't expecting to find a non ARM tablet at that price.

No one is really sure Microsoft will keep supporting RT, some say it is the future of mobile, some say it is dead, I say avoid it and let others gamble on it.

Maybe find out from the school which apps or programs she's going to use the most. I still use a laptop and a desktop (I run both the Mac and Windows OS on Mac computers), but with all the apps that are available and with a Zagg Folio keyboard case, I can do pretty much everything on my iPad Air that I can do on my full-blown computers. Not trying to push you away from the Microsoft OS, but there aren't that many apps available for it right now. As a tablet, just for that reason, it's kind of weak. But as a laptop replacement, that's also a half-decent tablet, it might fit the bill. But still best to go for what fits your (her) specific needs.

On a side note, a guy I used to work with called his child support payments "mommy support". [NOBABE]The kid[/NOBABE] was no better off, but when the judge upped his to about $1500/month after he had a killer year, Mommy Dearest promptly bought a new Corvette. Yeah, I'm sure [NOBABE]the kid[/NOBABE] appreciated being strapped into a baby seat in a Vette. Hopefully this one will do the right thing with the money and not buy a used Blackberry Playbook for $50 for your daughter and buy Gucci shoes for herself.

That is good advice to find out what is in her's school curriculum to find the right programs with apps.

Too young for Gucci shoes however!
