Suggestions for...of the Week Threads

you made good posts and i said you deserve a nomination for member of the week... crazy how things work...

Assuming you're actually serious, a nomination out of spite, which I suspect that would be, is worth little.

You can make little tiaras for everyone and have them call each other "Your royal highness" for all I care. As long as you don't try to make me acknowledge you just because you got a silly tiara and title given to you by someone I'm equally indifferent about, you can do whatever you ****** well want.

ahhh... tiaras!!! you gave away my surprise for the next member of the year thread! damn, oh well better start brainstorming again

No thanks....my paper hat is enough for me

Weekly and annual awards for quality posts/members are cool, but the processes should be consistent, IMO, for clarity's sake. It's fucking confusing having 4 different polls with different nomination/voting options, different "rolling" dates of the week, qualifications, & rules, etc.

Just my :2 cents:

:hatsoff: :nanner:

As far as these threads are concenered, I must agree with the whole "Darwinism" theory mentioned earlier. If a thread is really original and enjoyable, it will survive, like Juball's MOTW. If not, let the thread sink to the bottom and eventually disappear. No harm, no foul.

I actually enjoy the MOTW thread, and have agreed with the winner most times. There has never been a member, save HotRod11inches, that has won that I didn't think was a good member. Earlier, Juball's said the thread was a popularity contest, but so what? What's wrong with popularity? The fact of the matter is, some members are more liked/well-known/espected than others. As is the case in life. This by no stretch of the imagination makes the less liked/well-known/respected members any worse people. Like I've said in the past, every member of Freeones who is truly deserving of the MOTW crown will eventually wear it. I personally do not expect to ever win, but just being a part of the Freeones community is enough pleasure for me.

About those who constantly complain and badger about these OTW threads being a nusance, they are becoming a bigger annoyance in themselves. Like jod said before me, if you like the idea of a thread then participate. If, for some reason, you do not like the thread, simply do not click on them. There is no mandate here that states "all members must participate in at least one OTW thread per year", because this website is all about freedom.

That means the freedom to dislike a thread, and the EQUAL freedom to be able to create and maintain one. That's my:2 cents: , and this may just be my longest post, at least in a while.

Should a new sub section be created or added to the members only section for ...OTW threads?...could that help the confusion?...

No what Fly's getting at is the fact I don't run POTW the same way MOTW runs. Also that the winner of POTW is announced on a Monday night, instead of Saturday like MOTW.But I've set up POTW so everyone can nominate and vote, whether there on weekdays or weekends.

juballs' is successful mostly for two reasons: his commitment and the inclusive nature. He's run it week in and week out, and imo, saw that OTW was a long term investment. Any member can be nominated by anyone which makes it inclusive. The fact that it's mainly Talk participants is really no surprise given the threads location if nothing else!

The rest of the OTW threads will follow Darwin, I suppose. The inclusive nature of them is (imo) far less than a board member thread, but they have their followings.

The only suggestion that I can think of now, is to have them begin/end on alternate dates, spaced apart, so that the Talk section isn't jammed on a certain day with OTW threads at the top. juballs' occupies Saturday, so why not move another to Tuesday and yet another to Thursday (for example).

Like I said, "Board Darwinism" will prevail. It always does.

:2 cents:

No offense, amico BNF, but I happen to think that any or all "____ of the week" threads/polls should follow the same schedule for simplicity's sake.

Until you can prove to me that it's anything but an arbitary choice between the friends of the people who participate as opposed to something that actually says something about the poster's contribution the last week (and nothing but), I'm not going to waste time on, as someone said, mutual masturbation (and to the one who did, that was a good one. Made me laugh).

Not beating this issue to death, but I must state that most of the people who "know" me here, know me through the the board. I don't PM every one here, I do answer the ones I get, always. I don't IM or email members here. It is not that I don't want to, it just has not happened.
For me, being on this board is not about being popular. It's about posting about different topics, sharing babe links, sharing funny stuff, and most of all, for me, a place to have a little fun.
Now, a lot of members do not spend time in "Talk," that's fine, they are still worthy of any "award" here. Check out AFA, he won MOTW and rarely posts in "Talk."
Is there not only two more OTW threads - Post Of The Week and Sig Of The Week anyway? That's not a lot of OTW threads like this is made out to be. I've posted in all three and will continue to because I like 'em all!
Thanks for reading..
