I didn't convey that very well.
I'd catalog everything and save it for every use I can cook up. Like learning all the notes of a song, and then rewriting it so it sounds familiar, yet new and unexpected. So much better to discover and explore, rather than simply follow directions like a script. I'm exaggerating for effect, but I hope the intent is clear. The end goal should be both inevitable *and* surprising.
