How long does it take to have a submitted link approved? (Its been 24hrs), and if its not approved are we told why so as not to make the same mistake again?

You need to be a little more patient, even moderators need sleep you know.
And on how long it takes for your link to be approved depends on how many submitted links we have to process which can be quite a lot.
Eventually your link will be looked at but it's save to say this won't happen within 24 hours.

Sorry Regina. I just got an email from Anthony & didn't understand any of it, which leads me to conclude that I just shouldn't try submitting links anymore. No big deal there's plenty of other stuff to do around here. Thanks.
