She shouldn't butt into someone's conservation. People get shot in this fucked up country for **** like that.
On the issue of speaking english, I don't get people who live here for years and make no attempt to have at least a working knowledge of it and expect people to accomodate them.
I don't move to China, refuse to learn the language and expect people to know English.
Living in a state with a huge Hispanic population, I have never met a Spanish-speaker who, recognizing I am an Anglo, would expect me to understand or speak their language. Truth is, I know enough Spanish to converse with then on a very basic level and that often amazes and delights them....I get a real kick out of it myself. It's fun seeing cultural or linguistic gaps that might otherwise divide us actually serve to bring us together. Knowing how to speak some of the various languages that make up our extremely diverse culture is a huge social advantage from my experience.
That said, any immigrant should realize that, in order to prosper and advance in the USA, one needs to be able to speak, read and write English. It's a serious disadvantage if one is unable to communicate in
Ingles. The great thing about Texas (and maybe even in other states with high percentages of Hispanics....you tell me) is that there is such a melding of both languages that "Spanglish" is an ever-increasing hybrid language that significantly bridges the gap between the two languages.
Regardless, intolerant and fearful people like the pathetic old white woman in the video are hopefully in the minority in the rapidly-changing linguistic and cultural makeup of the USA in 2015. At least I sure hope she is.
