I'm intrigued by reading the comments from the American contributors to this thread and I believe the current problems we are experiencing here in the UK are of a similar nature.

o): The stupidification of the younger generations is a worldwide trend, I'm afraid. The chosen few have enough stamina and possibilities to pursue a decent education while the majority has internalized with the advent of reality TV and trash culture that you can strike it rich and famous whilst being a hopeless dumbfuck (so-called "***********" of Big ******* fame, gangsta rappers, Paris Hilton, et al.) Education is closely linked with economics, but you'd better read the works of Pierre Bourdieu than have me typing a boring and flawed lecture on a porn message board.

What I remarked is that many post 1986 born people are unable to think, to write in correct and comprehensible English as well as to think rationally. They live in the virtual world through MSN, IPOD and all the other crap. They can't even handle a fountain pen correctly nor even use a screw driver when they need to fix their car or anything else. The post 1986 born people are very often a bunch of lazy bums with no respect for their elder peers, they think they can take advantage of their elder peers without any consequence. That is very wrong because the older generation is more clever than them and will certainly not let disruption happen.You receive education from your parents and also by your own. If you are a lazy bum so be it, but know that others have not any obligation to assist you nor to educate you. You are on your very own.

As long as people don't have to wait too long for the care they need. Some people die waiting for their "free" health care.
It's not truly free either. Other countries pay for it in an added tax.

No such thing as free for sure.But if you compare the statistics between the different systems the countries with universal coverage(like france and the other developed countries) are doing much better health wise with their populations at 1/2 the cost per capita of the system in the US.They have universal coverage,better results, at 1/2 the cost.And IMO cost is the major reason we will have to adopt a similar system soon.

Hey does Upper Volta count as a country that starts with a U? The reason I ask is because it's now called Burkina Faso. Much more tourist friendly name.

What really gets to me is the fact that too many of the stupid or lazy people seem to get ahead while a lot of more deserving people get screwed in life. It wouldn't be that bad if hard work, intelligence, and dedication almost always got you somewhere. Instead it seems you either need to get lucky, which puts you in the same boat with those less deserving or you need to be a ruthless bastard that willing to run over the competition in life in a coldhearted manner to get ahead. As time goes on in this country it just seems to get worse.
