Well, the only work of Sting that I like is when he was with The Police, which I thought was great.
I like some of Phil Collins' solo stuff, however I prefer his work with Genesis (especially during the 70's, with and without Peter Gabriel as lead singer).
So, I'd have to choose Phil Collins.
Gotta be my favorite solo track here. I have fun with this on my drums. Kind of simple but effective. I love the lyrics too.
similar careers, same age too.
i like them both equally, with a slight edge for sting while with the police.
they both were great but got too sappy by the late 80's
That's actually a tough call. I was around through the Genesis and Police years. Genesis were pretty groundbreaking in the early days with Peter Gabriel, I thought they went off when Collins replaced Gabriel as singer. The Police kinda crossed between punk and rock and I rated Sting with them as a band. I just find them both mediocre as solo artists and hard to say who's best. I'd rate Phil Collins at 6.7 out of 10 and Sting 6.8.
Very tough call! If you'd thrown Steve Winwood in there, my brain would have probably locked up with indecision. But on this one, I have to go with Phil Collins. There are just so many songs from Collins and/or Genesis that represent the 80's. I still remember the first time I saw this.
