Stephen Colbert replaces Letterman

Looks like #CancelColbert was a major success!

I never thought he was funny because Stephen Colbert is just a one-trick-pony. The same joke over and over again. If he doesn't come up with new stuff then it's epic failure.

Pissed that there won't be a Colbert Report anymore, but on the other hand, he could be amazing as a late night network host. I don't give a shit about any of the current ones (except Conan, who's on cable). If you've watched Stephen in his interviews and when he breaks character or appears on other shows/movies, you know that he's smart, fast, friendly and comfortable. As long as CBS doesn't try to turn him into some vanilla schmuck, I think he'll be amazing, and I'll actually care about a Late Night talks how again.

They already said he won't be in his Bill O'Reilly satire persona.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Colbert is extremely funny, charismatic and a excellent interviewer so I think he will do great, but at the same time I will miss the Colbert Report and his persona on it.

I hope what you have said is true and we can get a decent show. Colbert may be stymied in a number of ways. Will people accept the non-O'Reilly Colbert? He has been pigeon holed into that character. Another thing is that these late night shows depend upon dozens of writers to fill time. Colbert can easily fall into the Jay Leno category. Leno is fantastic in the clubs with his own stuff but he can't write a fresh hour 5 times a week. Thus he had to rely on what the laugh machine handed to him and it made him look like shit. I am encouraged by the quick decision to make Colbert the successor. This will give the viewers time to adjust to the transition. My hopes are that Letterman makes this a smooth transition. Gradually hand over the show to Colbert and not just pull the curtain down.

i don't have high hopes for Colbert's new show. the report was good but saw some short clips he's done the last couple months and they were disappointing

First show was good but not the Brilliant we are used seeing from him. Defining his on air persona may take a while since no longer will be playing the "Stephen Colbert" he's done the last decade.

I just saw 1st show - DVR it

It was painful to watch. Not gonna be watching again. I know 1st show and kinks yet to be worked out but it was brutally painful to suffer thru
