I know most of people around here are avid sport fans. What could be your wishlist for 2009?
Baseball (MLB)
1- MLB back in Montreal. A competitive team was dragging over 2M people at Expos games in the 1980. The market is there, pretty much like Chicago in the NHL: we just need a competent owner.
2- A collective agreement like the NFL or NHL.
3- More canadian stars in the MLB. It helps to keep the canadian development system alive more than anything else.
Hockey (NHL)
1- The end of the instigator rule.
2- John Tavares to become an elite player like Sydney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin. Victor Hedman to become an elite player like Chris Pronger or Niklas Lidstrom.
3- Martin Brodeur to establish new milestones and put Patrick Roy second. For once, life could let a good guy win.
4- Move teams off non-traditional hockey markets and move them back to real hockey markets. With the current collective bargaining agreement, Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordiques would be alive and healthy. Hamilton, with Jim Balsillie as owner, could be also successful - if New York is able to support two teams, the Toronto area is also able to.
American Football (NFL)
1- A first regular game played in Montreal. If you don't know already, the NFL is a big thing already over here.
2- A first expansion in Canada. Toronto or Montreal.
European Football (MLS/USL)
1- Montreal Impact to join the MLS. Montreal is a major market in North America regarding European Football: it's a natural to be a member of the MLS!
2- More international star players joining the North American football adventure.
