Spider-Man death 'changes everything' for Marvel

Ummm...yeah, a comic book death. Lets just say I'm not worried. :1orglaugh

It's gotten bad enough I think the rate at which people return now is only averaging like a year or so.

Meh no one stays dead in comics, except lame characters like Nomad.

One of my favorite characters died and stayed dead (apart from a few brief storylines over the years where other characters visit him in the "realm of the dead").

That particular graphic novel remains one of the very finest examples of the comic book as an art form.

If I remember correctly, I think that might be a special case because there were copyright concerns involved with the character, but I'm not sure. I might be thinking of something else.

Well, the cover image is just a rip-off of Michelangelo's Pieta.

To their credit, Michelangelo's Pieta is one of the most copied pieces of artwork in history. They are far from the only person to do it and at that point it's almost paying homage to it rather than an actual rip-off.

...but yet Stan Lee is still kicking. Good for him.

Don't EVER mention THAT again!!!!!

Maybe that's what One More Day was about. To create something so mind-boggling and utterly horrible and absolutely historically terrible that even the clone saga isn't as bad in comparison so now people will forget about it.

It makes me wonder what scheme they will think of next to get rid of the taint of OMD though. :1orglaugh  Maybe it will be even worse.

(Just a note, my last comic I bought was of Amazing spider man in either 1994 or 1995 or around that time. I would have to check to be sure. It was my favorite comic and character. I stopped JUST before the whole clone saga thing happened,...it was just coincidence it worked out like that. Looking back though it almost makes me wonder if maybe it was fate sparing me from having to go through that ordeal and having me suffer. That was also the around the time I got disillusioned with the comic industry and general and walked away from it.)

I haven't read One More Day. The clone saga single-handedly stopped me from reading Marvel comics.

I didn't start reading Marvel again until Ultimate Spider-Man came out and the Ultimate universe was the only thing I was reading from them. I stopped reading the Ultimate comics around the Ultimatum storyline. I haven't read anything from the 616 universe other than Civil War.

I've pretty much been DC comics only ever since the clone saga!

EDIT: Well not just DC, some Top Cow and Dark Horse thrown in there too.

I remember it being a big deal when they killed Captain America in the Civil War comic. Especially given the way he died. The story came on a major news outlet.

I used to think that as well but it's a bit of an urban legend.

Truth is, Jim Starlin (who had been writing Captain Marvel for some time) just felt he'd done about as much as he could with the character. Sales of his comic had fallen so Marvel let him kill CM off.

It had nothing to do with the "other" Captain Marvel. In fact, Marvel gave the name to another character a few years after Mar-Vell was killed.

It seems to be a trend lately of killing off a chaceter then bringing them back.
Capt. America was "killed" only to be brought back back because he was shot with a time travel bullet. Then Batman gets hit by Darksied's Omeg beams and is shot back through time.
Then you have DC's "Blackest Night" where a bunch of hereos were killed only to be brought back in "Brightest Day".
lets not forget Marvel's Hercules "Chaos War" where Herc was all an all powerful god and brought a slew of dead hereos including all of the orginal Alpha Fight who now have their own seroes agian!
As for the death of Spider-Man I am willing to see where Bendis goes with this he seems to have a plan so I will go along for the ride!

Exactly, when a "hero" dies, they never properly die, reincarnation is inevitable which also links in with Jesus etc.

The one and only.
RIP, Toby. :(

From what I remember reading about later it was more than just the better known other Captain Marvel. There was also internal conflict in Marvel about their own Captain Marvel character(s) and some of the people working for them where there were different versions of the characters that they had developed at one time or another and the rights to them were kind of murky at the time. Although a few years later I think things were worked out anyhow. It's kind of hard just going on memory.

The whole situation with the name Captain Marvel is kind of screwed up. It would have helped it both DC and Marvel didn't feel the need to rip-off each other's concepts, looks, and names in the past.

Really? If I remember right, the death of Superman was a fairly big deal. :dunno:

Only because people thought the comic was going to be worth something one day. But it was just a mass produced cash cow.

It's only worth like 15 bucks now.

I think that's what draws me to Manga/Anime's sometimes. A lot of times a series is short and if characters die they are totally dead.

Comics are nerd soap opera though and I do find I like some of them...especially newer ones like The Walking Dead.

If you read that one don't get to attached to any of the characters as they are quite mortal.
