The main success of the Spaghetti Western in Italy started off with Sergio Leone and his admiration for the Akira Kurosawa film Yojimbo which Leone used as inspiration to make Fistful Of Dollars which spawned two follow-ups also launching the film career of Clint Eastwood. Sergio Leone is the best known director of Spaghetti Westerns but the other 2 Sergios(Sergio Corbucci & Sergio Sollima) made some important films in this genre as well. These films tended to have more heroes with shades of grey with over the top villains also way more action and ******** than American Westerns had. Spaghetti Westerns had about a 12 year run of success from 1964 to about 1976.
