Spaghetti Western Thread

The main success of the Spaghetti Western in Italy started off with Sergio Leone and his admiration for the Akira Kurosawa film Yojimbo which Leone used as inspiration to make Fistful Of Dollars which spawned two follow-ups also launching the film career of Clint Eastwood. Sergio Leone is the best known director of Spaghetti Westerns but the other 2 Sergios(Sergio Corbucci & Sergio Sollima) made some important films in this genre as well. These films tended to have more heroes with shades of grey with over the top villains also way more action and violence than American Westerns had. Spaghetti Westerns had about a 12 year run of success from 1964 to about 1976.

Here is an interesting documentary on Spaghetti Westerns. Which of these films are your favorites?

Didn't watch the Vid or click any of your links but bar none "Once Upon a Time in the West" is the best Sergio Leone western ever made. It's a long 2 hours and 55 minutes but worth every second.

I think that Bud Spencer and Terence Hill are the best or the worst actors in that field.

I've been a big fan of Klaus Kinski since I was a kid. Whether it's Aguirre The Wrath Of God, Nosferatu, or Crawlspace, no one plays a disturbed weirdo quite like Klaus. The Great Silence is a Spaghetti Western that I mention often to people. Kinski plays a villainous SOB and the ending is something you'll never forget. I feel this film is Corbucci's masterpiece.

I forgot to mention speaking of Klaus Kinski I just picked up And God Said to Cain and Shoot The Living, Pray For The Dead on DVD. Looking forward to seeing those 2.

The trick is to take out the "s" from "https". Then the youtube-links work. Ze Fly says, Dankeschön, Du Satan der Rache ^^

First post is way too long for my drunken mind but for other than the dollar-trilogy, Django (not the new one), Sabata and The Great Silence are great.
