Sony to cut price on ps3?

You get what you pay for though. X-box Live is far superior to the PSn, plus I've been hearing rumors that if the PS3 comes down to about $200 that Microsoft is looking at making Live free.

Thank you, exactly what I was going to say. For anyone on here who is thinking about going to EB/Gamestop, they are the exact same, and coming from someone who worked their as a teen, they are horrific to work for, and they will screw you every way they can think of. Don't give them your business.

Its bullshit that its $50 year, which is well worth it Shayd like you said, but you gotta pay $10 to change your gamertag name, $2 or $3 for avatar picks and themes, clothes etc. Thats highway robbery.

I dont think xboxlive will ever be free cause I think they take a hit for every console sold, production cost is over selling price,Shayd can answer that one. A good idea would be to keep charging the $50,but make the themes, pics etc. free. Maybe do specials giving the gamer incentives like free map pack downloads for being a gold member for 3yrs. or some shit. Like a bestbuy reward zone kinda thing.

I dont know about you but the whole point of being online is to play a game of NHL or Call of dookie. I cant play dress up or stare at my avatar character when I'm throwing grenades around a map like I dont give a darn.

If you wanna trade in games for credit then where would you go??? Many people, myself included, rely on trading in games towards future purchases.
If I kept every game I owned the past 10 yrs. I'd have an ocean full of stuff, but I've been a back and forth medium to low income dude,so.........

Okay,like I said,I won't think about getting a PS3 unless I can get one for about
$250,but here's an offer that I just might take this guy up on.
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/ele/1247232479.html
I really don't care about the game that he's throwing in the deal, but I can always jack some games off of my friend who's got a ton of them and can't play them all.
So do you guys think this is a good deal?

Btw,I don't have an HD television yet,but my computer monitor is a 23" HD.I'm thinking that I'll just hook up the PS3 with some HDMI cables to the monitor and play on it.Wouldn't it be the same if I were playing PC games?

Anyway,is there any technical reason why this shouldn't work?

You're basically getting everything you would get in a retail purchase except you're paying no tax and he's selling it for $109 cheaper then what you would pay at the store. Its a good deal but is this in your area to do it in-person or will you do a postal transaction? Cause Craigslist aint like Ebay so I'd be carefull dude.

As far as it working with the computer monitor, I dont see any problems with that since the monitor has a straight HDMI input right? Shayd would be the one to ask about that.

The guy selling it actually lives in the next town, according to the ad,so an in person meet is a definite.

The monitor has an HDMI input, but I don't have the cables,so obviously I would have to get them if I wanted to play in HD,but I've never heard of anyone every hooking their console up to a computer monitor.

The system now is ridiculously expensive. The funny thing is, Live right now could go free and Microsoft wouldn't have to worry about it for about another 15 years, simply because of available DLC. If you ask me, the right thing to do would be to make the service free, and just charge for goods online, things like DLC and gamer pics and themes. Allow users to develop their own, which will foster price decreases as people compete to sell. To me, that takes Live from an isolated gaming experienced to a full fledged respectable service market for players, a mini-Internet, so to speak.

As for trading in games, I'd suggest any major online retailer. Cheapassgamer.com is a good place to start, as well as a good one to find deals. Amazon, Buy.com, Overstock etc... these are all better alternatives because they don't arbitrarily deflate the value of your games. That's why I hate Gamestop etc so damn much. It's unbelievable to me that they take games as trade ins, offer a pittance in return, then turn around and sell it for 300-400% mark-up. Gamestop pure and simple makes their money off of people who have no idea how to show or where to look for games. Halo 3, according to their website, costs $34.99, and its trade-in value is between $8-$12. The game has been out for almost two full years, and they still want $35 for it, whereas Amazon has it for $36 with a trade in of 25-30. In the interest of full disclosure, I should warn you though that I am biased against Gamestop, but it's simply because they have anti-competitive practices, and will rip you off every chance they get.

I'm hearing that right around Madden launch its going down $100 and they're working on a firmware update that will make every ps3 backwards compatible.
Also theres a ps3 slim in the works. Has the slim already been production for a long time, will the slim come out of nowhere around Madden time like the rumor states and be $299???? That would be a great move for Sony cause the whole point of a slimmer system is to cut production costs.

I hope this is true. It really bummed me out when they cut Backwards compatibility. I have it on my first Playstation 3 in my living room but my Playstation 3 in my bedroom does not have it which it's one of the latest units out.

I've been wanting a PS3 for years now but couldn't afford it...besides it wasn't backwards compatible with my PS and PS2 games anyway so I just gave up. I hope this is true about the price decrease.

i heard a rumor about the backward compatibility onto a european forum
and the compatibility will be only for some ps2 games ... not all ps2 games...
Moreover the backward will work for ps2 games downloaded from PSN for a fee....... but still i'm not 100% sure about those news i wrote
since it's a rumor......

me too.... a PS3 price cut ( from 340 euros to 249 or 299 euros )
could make me buy it..... even without the
backward compatiblity......

Wow thats interesting u turn, is this a Sony rumor? The reason I ask is sony put out a pres release to the effect they were not cutting prices:

http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,28348,25751209-5014239,00.html

We shall wait and see what happens.

It's interesting to see that happen again. I believe this same sort of thing happened just about 6 months after the PS3 launched. Rumors of a price drop, and Sony comes out and says no. You're right, we'll see.

are they just doing this tho so people like me dont sit around and wait for the price i mean they still want to move console and if the world thinks a price dropis gonna happen no one will buy one until then

Well either their marketing team are very clever and are trying to get plenty of publicity out of this or they are the dumbest marketing team on the planet. Seeing as its Sony I would go with the later option and say they are trying to get some free much needed limelight for their console.

I have noticed that PS3 prices have remained fairly high and quite static since its release (yes there have been a few price reductions in line with manufacturing costs) compared to say X box which has seen quite dramatic price reductions over its lifetime.
