Some Know of What They Speak

Think about it!

Wow. I hadn't really considered the idea that Stalin was a poor example of leadership for a nation, great post. . (yawn)

I'm just waiting for Obama's second term so we can ship all the conservative Republicans off to the secret camps. Then it's party time! I'd even consider buying a conservative Republican slave, but they probably can't work very well.

I know this plays on the whole concept of "your enemies know you better than your friends", but....come on now.

America's advantages are the following:

(1) A (til now) strong civic virtue stemming from communal responsibility.
(2) Abundant natural resources with no nearby competition for exploiting them.
(3) Pacific. Atlantic.
(4) A strong, rights-oriented, checked-and-balanced republican (little r) Constitution that fought not only government overreach but the ability of one group (read: religions, ethnicities, parties) from dominating the rest.
(5) 1-4 creating a common bond from disparate groups, admittedly stronger or weaker at different points and between certain groups, but ultimately growing with time.
(6) A civil war that established federal predominance in a way that bound the republic stronger than ever before, creating a truly national union, not to mention freeing an entire segment of the population to partake in the society more fully (though that itself would take much more time to bear better fruit thanks to the obstruction of others).
(7) Lots of room to grow, so conflicting groups could more easily migrate (Northwest Ordinance? anyone?)
(8) These other factors combining to produce strong immigration and favorable demographics.

I'm really, really tired of hearing that. I want you to tell me, in no uncertain terms, the exact year of our history you think we were at a perfect level of spirituality, morality, and patriotism. I want to have you put your finger on when all was A-OK compared to right now.

xfire, I totally agree with and support the First Amendment as well.

1776 - 1962

After that, it's been all downhill ever since.

It does occur to you that our values, patterns, choices, and so forth fluctuated wildly during that period, right? Also, according to you the period prior the Civil Rights Act, most of the period before women could vote, the segment of our history in which we enslaved and tortured other human beings--legally--, the time in which we slaughtered one another, that time there was an armed revolt over LIQUOR TAXES, the time our Vice President shot a Founder to death, the time we occupied several island chains, tortured their residents and tried to imperialize them, the obliteration of the native american tribes and their forced removal to barren lands....these are all indicative of a fantastical, utopian America?

I HEREBY CALL:

Then I fail to see why you think there's something wrong with American spiritual, moral, and patriotic life that hasn't always been. Who exactly are you accusing of being immoral, unspiritual, and unpatriotic? And, whoever it is, why are you being completely unchristian by passing judgment on others?

While you guys are bitch slapping each other, I'm wondering about the quote in the OP. Since when did Stalin give a shit about anyone's spiritual life, including his own?

I doubt this "quote" is accurate or that he ever said it. "quote".....see what I did there?

Stalin did not have any concern about anyone's "Spiritual Life", beyond exploiting some weird "magic crap" that the Russian noble class bought in to, and that only lasted until he killed most of them.

He was a jerk, obviously. History has shown this.

I'm revisiting some of my ideas now, although I don't think they will change my opinions drastically.

So, you mean just because it's a picture of Stalin next to a quote doesnt guarantee that it's true?

You have shattered my faith in humanity and the interwebz...

He probably didn't say it. But fuck it, it sounded good when I posted it. :busted:

You're saying that you posted a picture of Joseph Stalin, with quotations attached, but you apparently don't even know if he actually made those statements?

You have now rechecked your passport to Dumbfuckville. Please swim out as far as you can from the beach. No one will save you as quickly as possible.
