The Smashing Pumpkins only because I smoked weed with Billy @ The Metro one time many moons ago. :)

Too bad I never shared a needle with Kurt. :(

I have heard most Smashing Pumpkins.....The Aeroplane Flies High is one of my favorite rarities. I own Pisces Iscariot, Mellon Collie, Machina, Gish, Siamese Dream, and Zeitgeist, and no doubt they're great.....but you put them up against Nirvana. Nirvana is like The Beatles of this generation. Try to remember what things were like before Smells Like Teen Spirit was played on MTV.....nothing but hair bands! Sure, maybe Nirvana wasn't the best of the generation, but they were the first. Then, after Kurt offed himself what happened? Everything went to shit again.....Spice Girls, Britney Spears, boy bands, rap....ugh! I'm afraid that rock is nearing its end. I mean, what's gonna save it.....emo? :1orglaugh

yeah i hear that, the late 80's to late 91 you had guns and roses and aerosmith and hair bands as far as rock, there was some descent alternative at the time. Plus REM, U2, Tom Petty and some others never really faltered.
looking back i do like it, even the hair bands
its just have good time and party music
The same thing happened in the the early 60's after buddy holly died and until the beatles came, all you had was the beach boys for 4 years.

I remember exactly where i was the first time i saw the vid for teen spirit, I said this is it, these guys will be big.

Side note: for some reason 80's rock is big in south america.
All the little rockeros like guns and roses and the hair bands, but 70's and 90's rock is pretty much never heard, never played..... I guess its just to profound for them to grasp.

I don't understand how Nirvana could have been together for such a short time yet have so many classics. I wonder what Cobain would be doing now if he were still alive...

I would imagine that he would have collaborated with Dave Grohl and many of the Foo Fighters songs would be Nirvana hybrids. Also, Kurt said he was thinking about incorporating more instruments like the piano. I personally think the best Nirvana had to offer hadn't happened yet. We'll never know.

Pumpkins!

Nirvana were great and kick started a new style of music but they were never able to evolve beyond the same sound. Even if Kurt Cobain hadn't committed suicide I don't think the band would have survived much longer.

I think Foo Fighers are a better band then Nirvana were.

Smashing Pumpkins have a much more dynamic sound and have grown as a band. They may not have a single release that was a groundbreaking as Nirvana had but they have a stronger overall body of music.

I agree pretty much.
except foo fighters may have been a tighter band, but i like nirvana better.
that last paragraph is right on i believe.
if you are purely a hard rocker, pumpkins got some good heavy stuff, nirvana is heavier fer sure, if you also like beautiful harmonys with poetic lyrics in my opinion no one tops the pumpkins in that style.

Now I haven't heard of some of this. Are these acoustic demos Billy Corgan with guitar only or are they various instruments? I will definitely check into these, thanks. :hatsoff:
