Slayer cancels tour

This difficult decision made by the band's bassist/vocalist Tom Araya means the cancellation of Slayer's immediate tour plans that include the American and Canadian Carnage Tour dates that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's UK/European tour scheduled for March and April. Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work to see if these dates can be rescheduled, so those holding tickets are asked to sit tight as more info will be announced as progress is made.

The headbanging Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms. The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.

Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."

Was a big Slayer fan when I was a teen. Saw them live 5 times. Twice at Ozzfest.

Sucks that people who haven't seen them live will not get to this year. Good live show and some hardcore pits at their shows.

I went to one show with Morbid Angel, Slayer and Pantera, Angel and Slayer sounded awful so we thought it was the audio in the arena but then Pantera went on and kicked all our asses.

They are still on my metal playlist.

The whole thrash genre from the 80's are all going to have neck and back problems. Headbanging hurts the next day.

Death by headbanging, what a way to go.

I've seen Slayer perform when Tom had lost his voice, so you know shit must be real serious for him to cancel an entire tour.

Do you have a source for this, or are did you just pull that out of your ass? I was gonna work the show at the Cow Palace on the 21st. If the show got canceled, that's gonna suck for me moneywise.

This is actually going to suck for a whole bunch of people/venues.

I hope the guy is alright, but really, killing a whole tour is seriously bad PR. They'll have a harder time booking next time.

YEAH! Pantera KICKS ASS!! RIP DIMEBAG, GET WELL ARAYA :glugglug:

I heard they were going to make it a summer tour instead... And that they canceled it because of low ticket sales.

I haven't seen either one live, but I'd like to... They usually tour with crappy bands that's why I haven't seen them.

So you would like to see Slayer and Pantera live but never did becasue of their opening acts? That makes no sence. I have seen both numerous times and regardless of their opening acts I am there for Pantera and Slayer.

Well you might get to see one, you missed the boat on Pantera, best pits ever IMO.

I met Pantera in '91. They were touring the Vulgar Display record and opening for Skid Row, of all bands. A Slayer show though, is a total workout. You come out of there drenched and drained.

I wish I could have seen Pantera. I had one chance to in the late 90's but didn't get to go. I wish that guy hadn't killed Dime, they probably would have gotten back together eventually. :(
