Sir Alex Ferguson Retires

I'm watching some specialist videos
It was 2004. The "unbeatable" season. The pictures of them with their flag unfurled on the grass at White Hart Lane celebrating with the trophy still make me throw up in my mouth.

Yes, 2004 - It's been a long time, but not quite as long as some.

United have won the title 5 times since then. Unbeatable.

United have been quite incredible under Fergie. You will miss him.

The lord saviour aka David Moyes has thrusted his presence into United's life. From this day forth he will be known as 'David Moyes'. I thank you.

Having the same nationality and being brought up in the same area doesn't mean you have the same qualities.
Ferguson won titles BEFORE he went to Man Utd at a time when teams didn't have rich foreign owners.

Moyes also doesn't have the fortunate circumstance of a young group of players emerging (Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Beckham, Neville etc) so there is no point in comparing Moyes's arrival with Ferguson's.

Man Utd won the title because of Ferguson...their squad isn't as good as Man City. I don't expect Man Utd to win a title for a while.

Oh yeah of little faith. I wouldn't mind an FA cup win at some stage. It's been a long time since we beat the cockney sparrows in 2004.

I'd say United won the title because they added Robin van Persie to their starting lineup and City added nothing up top and split up a title-winning centre-back partnership.

They have to win their last two games to finish with 8 points less than they did last year, which I attribute to replacing Lescott with Nastasic. People have told me that Nastasic is a better defender than Joleon Lescott and that may be true, but the fact is the whole is frequently more than the sum of its parts, and Kompany & Lescott knew what each other was doing, had confidence in each other, and Joe Hart had confidence in them. Look at how terrible City's defence was in the Southampton game and in seven minutes of the Spurs game, that's 6 points dropped due to their frailties at the back, off the top of my head.

Plus of course, Mancini failed to get the best out of Balotelli. He went to Milan and has been scoring goals for fun while Dzeko seems keen on adding a new contender to "Miss of the Season" every week. As ever, the team that does best out of the transfer window is the team I expect to win the title. Two summers ago City acquired Sergio Aguero, and last summer United bought RVP. There's a title-winner out there for somebody. I just pray his initials aren't "GB."

It will be interesting to see how many players stay around for the next season ... i can see half the squad disappearing!

Rooney aside, they'll only get rid of players that weren't truly making the grade anyway. Nani, Anderson, maybe Ashley Young. Evra might see the writing on the wall too if the proposed 17M for Baines goes through.

Depending on what reports you believe, they'll be bringing in Lewandowski, Fellaini, Ronaldo, Bale or Fabregas. And Baines. They'll be fine.
