I can't stand that show.

As for The Simpsons, look at how much it costs. I've seen different estimates, but I'm certain it costs at
least 3 million per episode and I've seen estimates as high as 6 million or more per episode, so it's now costing FOX somewhere between 70 to 120 million per season. Truthfully, I only see two reasons why it's still on:
1 Continuing with the episodes is just an excuse to fuel the merchandising juggernaut the series has become.
2 Compared to the other networks, FOX is still looked upon as a youngster and having a series that has become truly iconic is a real status symbol that FOX would like to keep.
Although the series has lasted longer than others in number of years, Gunsmoke still holds the record for number of episodes as back then, they made many more episodes per season than any series does in today's markets. I think that once that record is broken, FOX will probably pull the plug.
