Fox says can't afford more "Simpsons" without cuts

The future of animated TV comedy "The Simpsons" was up in the air on Tuesday after 20th Century Fox Television said it could no longer afford to produce the show without a huge pay cut for its cast.

Fox Television, a unit of News Corp, issued a tough statement after a report that it had threatened to end the subversive series unless the voice actors take a 45 percent pay cut.

"We believe this brilliant series can and should continue, but we cannot produce future seasons under its current financial model," Fox said.

You can't afford the programs you have. That means you go out of business. :yesyes: They just want to pay people less. Shameful. :nono:

It's been over twenty years already, let the family rest.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
They're also probably trying to toss a little preemptive strike at Seth McFarlin too. They wanna keep him in check, with 3 show running, and all doing pretty good.

i can see where Fox tv is coming from in a way. The show has ran its course after 2 decades. Its not as funny and entertaining as it once was, ive maybe watched 5 episodes the last 5 seasons if even that, i dont watch it as much as i used to.

The cast/crew of The Simpsons have been kicking around the idea of calling it quits for years now, so I doubt they'll lose sleep over it.
It's not the first long-running show to have the ax suddenly come down. Just a couple weeks ago, 'All My Children', a soap opera which ran for over 4 decades was cancelled for the same reason, despite the number of viewers they had, Emmy nominations, etc. ABC replaced it with some cheap cooking show. No one will watch it but the network thinks they know best and same goes for Fox. I'm afraid they'll try to put some cheap reality show in its time slot. It's often cheaper than dealing with shows that have writers and actors. Personally I despise reality shows so I hope it doesn't happen.
They should start with cutting Cleveland Show. No one needs 3 Macfarlane shows and that's by far the weakest.

I only like Family Guy cause of Stewie and Brian, and that show seems to be placing less significance on humor centered around those 2, so its become harder to watch. I HATE HATE HATE 'The Cleveland Show'. Cleveland was a bad character to center a spinoff around. American Dad is pretty good. Seth McFarland's shows are ok, theyre not necessarily special.

The simpsons need to finish. I watched them from the start and gave up around season 12. They just aren't funny anymore. The kids never aged and the comedy never really improved, it was the same stupid formula they used week after week.

Same could be said for a lot of family based comedy and they probably suck now because of it. Matt Groening once said when the show stopped being funny they would stop making it, you're 10 years overdue.
