Now I grew up playing both of these series on the ps1 ps2, & now ps3, Hell I still have all the games. But I was recently debating with my friend on which series was better during the actually survival horror years (ps1 & ps2 years, silent hill has actually pretty much stayed the same but we were discussing between resident evil 1 - code veronica & silent hill 1 - 3) Now in your opinion which WAS the better SURVIVAL horror series (don't count re 4 or re 5) & why was it better. Now I've LOVE both series but silent hill 1 & 2 have been the only games to actually scare me, but resident evil always seemed realistic to me (I mean the zombie outbreak not the B.O.Ws) & I always had fun playing resident evil because I wasn't scared, but I loved silent hill because it could scare me & the suspense was far better on silent hill then resident evil, plus silent hill's monsters have always been more unique then resident evil. So I honestly can't pick between the two. So which do you like more & why?

I've not played silent hill due mostly to my not being able to get into the RE series. I've played most of em. Each time hoping for something different. And each time sadly disappointed. No matter how hard I try, the zombie thing doesn't affect me except for bores me. Zombies have been played out for years. I really don't see what the appeal is.
Resident Evil is more about action and survival with a dash of puzzles.
Silent Hill is about Mysteries and Puzzles with a dash of fighting. Silent Hill 2 is probably the scariest game of the SH series. I could barely play that game at night in the dark haha. After Silent Hill 2 it just got... well lame.
I've enjoyed every Resident Evil except RE Dead Aim and RE5.

I really don't see the point in commenting if you don't like them.
Yeah it was hard for me to admit that silent hill 3 just flopped to say the least but I still play them just because they well always have that little place in my heart.

Resident Evil is survival/horror. That game gave you a knife if you were using Chris to start the game off with and a gun if you were using Jill.
Now in Resident Evil you are part of S.T.A.R.S which is basically like a type of SWAT unit.
Your character knows how to handle a gun,etc.
Now in Silent Hill,that game is horror personified. Your character was just a regular father wanting to find his daughter. He started out with a piece of pipe/iron,imagine that,your character has a PIPE to start with. In the game he cant even shoot the gun properly,he fumbles it etc.
That game was a masterpiece.

(The scene when he is in the mall and the tv screen starts playing a footage of his daughter screaming his name almost made me shit my pants!)

I voted for Silent Hill. Why? because the series is still horror. Even SH4:The Room [as crap as it is] was decent in the atmosphere dept. And SH5:Homecoming was as good too in the atmosphere dept. SH5 was also better in every aspect than SH4 was.

Resident Evil for me. The first one was something so different and impressive when it came out in mid 90's. Oh, the memories.

Silent Hill is cool but my favorite is Resident Evil i've always been a fan of the series since the first one.
The first Silent Hill was dope, can't really remember any of the other games. I'll go with Resident Evil, my favourite game series ever. I own RE1, two copies of RE2, RE3, RE Code: Veronica, RE4, RE5, RE: Outbreak, RE: Dead Aim. I'll be gettin all of the games in the series as soon as i start saving money.
