I asked him why he's so opposed to gay marriage back in May after two of my gay friends stopped by since they haven't seen me since I left in 2001. How does their happiness and getting the same CIVIL rights affect him? My dad's answer? "Because it does"

At least my mother had "because the bible says it's wrong" as an excuse.

That's exactly it. There was a political TV ad that I saw, and all the commentary on the "news" shows........it's all bullshit. Two people, that by the person's admission they don't know and don't want to know; since when do they care about two unknown people getting married? In what other scenario would they care about two unknown people getting married? It's sad.

Oh, you're going to love the answer he finally gave when I pressed him. Apparently he doesn't feel gay people deserve the same tax breaks as a hetrosexual married couple. He somehow thinks that this will somehow affect him in the great scheme of things.

I love my parents, but it's things like this where I hope someday my mother drops the bomb and tells me I'm adopted.
