Shouldn't you be dead?

Make whatever thread you want. But, you're a weirdo. You simply can't deny that.

Start a thread, ask if people interact with geriatrics, fine. Start a thread, use the phrase

and expect to be taken seriously?

Unlikely.

yeah no kidding, makes no sense to merely pretend

AFK..being taken to the vet to get neutered.
The old people, they are fine, but as you walk down the street, conversing, it occurs that by the dustbins there are many rats - some might be quite old too: like elder rats - so you could talk with them, or buy a Zimmer frame, to be serious about Internet dialog which is important, as many people would say - like me - about having a coffee and just relaxing with a granny or going to a bowling match with fun.

I have an old lady who lives upstairs, she is 93. I usually chit-chat a bit when she comes downstairs to do shopping etc, and make sure that in winter the pavement is safe for her, snowfree and so on

It is interesting what she tells about the times when we had to start over from scratch in the late 40ies and 50ies.

Plus as mentioned - now we are more or less young, but when we get old, we sure would appreciate for young people then to lend a hand and to talk to

Old people are great. Somehow they survived the constant shit storm that is life.

I'll be amazed to see fifty. Let me be more clear. I'll be amazed to see fifty NOT face down dead penniless in a gutter being prodded at by a curious fat kid.

boo yah motherfuckers.

For the EMPEROR!!
Like in every group of people there are good and bad. But a lot of old people are cool. A lot of them have seen and done things that you (the OP) probably haven't. It costs nothing to show a little respect.

This day and age people are living longer due to modern medicine and never forget you'll be old someday too. ...

... If you make it.

I'm still waiting for the general consensus of what "old" is....

...and I'm amused at the fact that the majority of the posters responding to a thread with its' share of comments about the "old"......have their ages hidden.

I can't be old - I still haven't decided what I want to do when I grow up.

Great observation. When I was in my 20's, I imagined and tried to act like I was in my 40's. Now that I'm in my 40's, I (try to) imagine and act like I'm still in my 20's.

As for the OP, I learned most of what I know (life lessons, anyway) from people MUCH older than me. The wise moves I've made were because of advice I took from "old people". But 99.9% of the dumb shit I've gotten myself into was because of people my age or younger.

I've tried to tell my little dumb ass cousin to get into a good engineering school, even if he ends up doing something else. Work hard early on and you can cruise later on. But since I don't play video games or know what a Gameboy is, he figures I'm just some "old dude" who rants and raves a lot (which I do). His dad and I are about the same age. His dad has been on cruise control since he was 18 or so. All he has is what's been given to him. Lives in a condo that his mother bought for him and spends his weekends going to Star Trek conventions. I've worked my ass off (most of the time) and I have at least a little something to show for it. But Kiddo seems to think that his dad has nothing just because he's unlucky, and whatever I have fell off Santa's sleigh. Like so many kids I see these days, that boy is probably going to stumble through life for a long time.

Anyway, I figure even an old wino has an interesting story to tell. Like somebody above said, anyone who manages to survive the shit storms, that life tends to throw at you periodically, probably has something to say that you can learn from... if you'll take the time to listen.

*See... I do rant & rave a lot!*

I never tried to act like I was in my 40s-and I still don't. How is someone supposed to "act" in their 40s, anyway? It's funny how we all have perceptions of how things will be until we reach them. People in general love to celebrate and wax nostalgic about how great it was to be a kid, but what they seem to forget is all of the things that sucked about it...like having NO say in well, anything.

My first thought on awakening on my 40th birthday was :"Holy shit; I fuckin' made it......now the fun can really" begin. One of the really great things about being an adult is that I can choose to be a kid.

Certain people are ready to dismiss others of a higher age as "old fools".

....you don't get to be old bein' no fool.

Like you say, I wasn't real sure about that. So I just imitated the older, successful people I got to know. The main one was this guy named Will. He was the senior VP of the company that underwrote and bought our mortgages - he was in his early 40's when I met him. Will took a liking to me and I'd always tag along with him to bars and lounges when he'd come into town. On the surface, Will seemed to have it all. And I wanted to be like Will (or so I thought). So I imitated his actions and demeanor. I even started smoking the same brand of cigarettes that Will smoked (and I had never smoked cigarettes before). I damn near turned into Will's Mini-Me. I was competing against people a lot older than me in what I was doing back then. And it wasn't easy to convince people to risk their hard earned money and sign their names to a piece of paper that some goof-ball 23 year-old stuck in front of their faces. But it was much easier to get them to take me seriously if they saw me as seeming older (or just more mature) than I actually was. A con, an act... give it a name. It worked. But thankfully I grew into my own person soon enough.

Now I often wonder what happened to ol' Will. I guess he'd be in his late 60's by now. I got off Will's Bandwagon when his wife caught him banging a 20-something, divorced him and he started drinking heavily... and lost his job.
