Shouldn't there be more respect for women in porn?

I'm sorry. I just disagree with the whole premise of this thread. Meaning, as degrading as you think some stuff is, there are those (porn chicks) who are into to that kind of shit.

I think it plays into this whole silly exploitation, victimhood assertion made by porn critics. What person entering the world of porn doesn't understand that they are being paid to perform sex acts??

To that, I imagine most of the conversations consist of, "we're shooting this kind of scene...here's what were paying...are you interested?" "No? Well, here's some more money.. are you interested?" "No? Okay there's the door"

There is the case that porn trends certain ways now and again..and in that case you got 3 choices, either move with the trend, grow your niche or do something else just like in any other industry.

Some say argue the quality of porn has gone down. I believe it's just the opposite. There have never been more, good performers and never before has the individual consumer of the product had an easier time finding a ton of stuff they like. The same stuff that was done years ago is still out there and in unprecedented volumes.

There is tit porn, ass porn, puss porn, tat porn, pierced porn, asian, black, brunette, etc. that exists on a scale never before seen.

I don't think for example Jenna Jameson is any bigger because of what she did or didn't do....With the help of Howard Stern and others her brand was maximized in the market place. She had a combination of looks, sluttiness and personality which helped sell her product well. Anyone familiar with sales and marketing knows the best product doesn't always win out. It's the one with the right packaging, sold at the right time to the right market.

I think this is just another case where people are being more sanctimonious on a subject than the actual people affected by the subject.

Almost every interview I've read, porn chicks seem like they're happy with how the industry has treated them and have had good experiences. The one's that don't... seem to be the large type assholes who fuck with other people for no good reason.

Just because they are being paid "large sums of money" to preform sex acts dosent mean its ok to degrade them?? What if they did it for no money at all, does that mean the free ones cant be degraded? (There are a few that get paid on what the video sells, no upfront money) When did it become Ok to degrade sex, or the people having sex for money. Ron Jeremy isn't degraded, he is glorified, right? So why cant the ladies be? Whats the difference? One is male, the other is female in our society. Please admit, it is at least flawed and is in favor of men.

If the men are glorified for porn, so should the woman. How many times on here have you read a post with something close to, "Hell, I'd screw her on camera for free!"

A woman, just because she is a woman in porn, and makes tons of money doing it should not be Ok, to degrade her. She should be glorified, just like her male counterparts. Hot Mega, you know I respect your opinions, I just don't agree. LOL, and to think I thought we had some of the same views....LOL!

My contention is simply with who gets to decide if someone is being "degraded"? You? Or the person allegedly being "degraded"??

That's part of the same nonsensical basis for banning prostitution. They are being "exploited". To whatever degree that's true of prostitutes it is made worse by the fact that they must ply their trade in most cases on the black market....then the same hypocrites who claim their work is exploiting them are the same people who would arrest them, jail and fine them. Go figure.

Some of these women are doing things that they do in their private lives some don't. The only thing I presume to know (or understand) is whatever they're doing on camera is primarily for money...the only other motivation there can be is because they like it.

Who the fuck am I to tell a chick who appears perfectly comfortable doing something that she's being "degraded"?? If certain porn isn't your taste, don't watch it.

I like certain porn chicks because they are attractive and I enjoy their work...I don't put them up on pedestals though. They are hot chicks who provide many the good fortune of watching their beauty perform sex acts, pure and simple. From that I don't profess to know any more about them than the one's I've met personally.

Again, the whole notion that a chick you like is too good to perform some sex act is at minimum silly and childish; bordering stupid.

I might add, Ron Jeremy isn't glorified IMO....he's managed to crossover somewhat to mainstream....but how many other porn dudes have as compared to the porn chicks who have???

It took me a while to go through the thread. I liked the tenor of the discussion. Apart from the reason that the female pornstars are working in an industry that has an immense potential in the market, like an engineer works in Engineering and earns his keep, the debate is basically on the instrument they are using for their trade. Like a doctor who uses his hand, ear, eye and mind in conjunction with his/her knowledge of his/her trade, the female pornstar uses her pussy, ass, boobs, mouth, hand and her mind in conjunction with her knowledge of her trade.

I don't find that much of a difference between the two. If a doctor or an engineer serves the society and the economy, so does the pornstars. A controlled prostitution decreases the criminal record is an accepted theory and so is porn.

I try to visualize a scenario. No female is allowed in the porn industry. Can you?

If not, they do deserve respect, isn't it?

[/QUOTEI say "no". Women are paid great amounts of money to do this. It's not forced upon them to have sex for money.

If women want more respect and feel degraded they shouldn't be in the business. There's 100 girls waiting in line to do anything they're asked to do.]

I agree
Everyone knows what there getting in to when they go in to this business, it will always be something that people will frown apon, but times are changing and people are becoming more welcoming to it as you can see more and more reality shows involving porn, such as porno valley etc. on show case.

I get your point but you can't compare doctors & engineers to porn star, I see you concept on the trade but there still is a difference to open heart surgery and fucking a stranger on film for money.

+1

Ron Jeremy is (clearly) an exception, and I'm not sure that that many people respect him to begin with. I'd say there are many more people who "respect" Vanessa del Rio, Tracy Lords and/or Ginger Lynn Allen (who have crossed over to some degree) than any male porn star, including Ron Jeremy.

But still, I go back to what you and several of us have said repeatedly: respect isn't something you're entitled to, it's something you earn. And especially what you said here:
Who the fuck am I to tell a chick who appears perfectly comfortable doing something that she's being "degraded"?? If certain porn isn't your taste, don't watch it.

The PC feminist agenda that makes every woman out to be a victim of a male dominated society isn't my cup of tea. That's what drives me nuts about modern day America... everytime someone screws up or gets in a jam not to their liking, they work like a Trojan to figure out how they can sell themselves to be a victim.

All the doctors don't perform open heart. There are too many menial work in health sector. What I see, that a doctor in profession is providing a service, as a service provider, to the society. I'll exclude any doctor who practices without charging any fees to their patients. They are a different breed altogether. So is any one in any service sector. Voluntary Free Service is not within my point of discussion.

It's a job: I have respect for anyone who holds down - and is able to hold down - a job. :my2cents:

My point exactly, and thank you... Its catigorizing at its best. Its a job, no more, no less, and there job is not reason enough to degrade them.

It doesn't matter if you provide a service, It's the service you provide that the public will determine if you get respect or not,

I agree with busenbust it's a job to put food on the table

I think I understand what you mean.

Well, it is what it is. There are feminists who want pornography outlawed because they believe by its very nature, it degrades and demeans women. Many neocons and Evangelicals also believe that. How they feel about gay, lesbian and/or female dominant porn, I'm not sure.

But with each passing day, it feels so good to be a libertarian.

Well, I have just found an article at LukeIsBack the idea of which is very close to my own, although I wouldn't use so many strong words, but I am too lazy to tap in my own article.

Here you are:

“Let’s be nicer to whores”

NL- I don’t necessarily like the way it’s said, or the words he uses, but I like the overall idea behind it.

by William from his blog http://blogs.myspace.com/

Let’s be nicer to whores

This might seem like an odd sentiment coming from me, given my long history of abusing porn whores. But in my own defense, I really just enjoy abusing women in general. The porn whores are just better sports about putting up with it.

Some time ago, I found myself chatting with a confrere from one of the more infamous online adult forums, who had his panties in a bunch about something or someone, and I remember asking him why exactly there was so much vitriole directed at female performers. Why were they so mean to the girls? He explained to me that, at least insofar as he was concerned, he found them all to be a little too stuck up and self-satisfied. Therefore he felt compelled to degrade them in order to take them down a peg. This was what motivated him at least. So, after some contemplation, it occured to me that what he was essentially saying was, that he felt compelled to demean and belittle young women – many of whom are single mothers, with little or no post secondary education and limited options – who decided to make their living fucking on camera in order to increase the standard of living for themselves and/or their families. These were the people he felt needed a hard, cold dose of reality. These were the people that needed to get off their high horse.

The fact of the matter is that, for every adoring fan who tells these girls how flawlessly beautiful they are, or who worships the ground beneath their feet.. there’s some bitter, angry d-bag with a case of sourgrapes who points out every blemish or physical imperfection they’ve spent years trying not to be self-conscious about. They’re too fat, they’re too thin, their tits are too small, their tits are too big, their hips are too wide, their ass is too flabby, they have stretch marks, they have zits, they have bad teeth, etc etc. I don’t feel sorry for any of them because they chose to work in an industry that exposed them to that kind of scrutiny, and they’ve gotta take the bad with the good. But there is, in fact, plenty of bad already without ingrateful masturbating shitheads contributing to the sum total.

Now granted, porn has more than its share of preening primadonnas. And yes, many of them are rock stupid or crazy as a shithouse rat, and more than deserving of our mockery. But let’s be fair… they were stupid and/or crazy before they ever got in front of a camera. Porn didn’t make them that way… it just increased their earning potential, and their exposure to hard drugs and bad people. If they hadn’t done porn, they’d just be your crazy neighborhood Denny’s waitress. And if you’re crazy enough to get creampied by 30 excons with questionable hygiene in the first place, you may as well get paid.

My point is, we don’t become whores when we start fucking for money. We were whores long before that.. we just hadn’t gotten paid yet [ And that goes for men as well as women ]. So the next time you’re sitting in judgement from the lofty perch of self-righteousness and blissful ingnorance, angry forum guy… take a moment to consider how a foreshortened perspective can distort reality. Maybe it’s time to get off your high horse.

Isn't porn supposed to be an art form? The female body is a thing of beauty, and awe-inspiring. I cringe whenever I see something like "GHETTO GAGGERS", "TEENAGE SLUTTERS", "ANAL WHORES", etc.

Many of the porn scenes I've watched have been demeaning for the girl. Mind you, I still enjoy hardcore porn but I think it should be more graceful. Some of you probably think I'm crazy.

I agree with you 100% dude.

porn is a fast dollar for a good looking women.....eye candy for men ...as far as respect ....ahhhh..well....thats in the small print on the fast dollar page...i love to watch porn.....WATCH being key word here.....have often thought about where a porn star goes with her job after retirement.....looks like a dead end road to me :dunno:........i love wathing porn and im glad some women choose to do so.....but its not something i would want my family members doing ....i think they would get more respect working at a bank or doctors office....question is .....respect or fast dollar.....most porn stars have made that choice when the cloths come off im just saying:2 cents:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it1LApX9f90

Just indoctrinate porn stars with this if they have thin skin.

If they are comfortable getting naked and banged hundred ways from this Sunday, why would they let some hurtful words get them down?

Just show some respect whether the person is a porn star, janitor, teacher, whatever! People are people.

Jeez, though, first porn stars are considered racist for not banging black people; now a thread saying respect them...

Well, I suppose the adage /respect-is-not-a-right,-it-has-to-be-earned-/ could be posited. Only, just financially for women in porn???
