Should the Washington Redskins change their name?

All good points and I know a few black people that are huge Redskins fans. Maybe announcers should just start calling them the Washington R-Words during the game.

Washington Retards? Little on-the-nose, isn't it?

Oh wait, you probably didn't use "R-Word" the way Sarah Palin uses "R-Word", huh? I find it interesting that she defends people who toss out the N-Word with talk of free speech (even when it doesn't apply), but that she flies off the handle when someone says "retard". Oh wait, she has a daughter with a mental disability! I forgot, it matters and should be defended because it effects her personally and she's a complete and total hypocrite and egotist. Guess she doesn't know many black people... or gays... or poor people... or Muslims... or democrats... or intellectuals... or scientists... or atheists... or really anyone who isn't white, Christian, republican and upper class. :dunno:

I assume you're talking about Palin defending Dr.Schlessinger for using the N-word on her radio program? There's a world of difference in using or repeating the N-word to illustrate a double standard and actually calling a person the N-word. Gawd, I feel like I'm in kindergarten here.

And she has a son with a mental disability.

I don't think you're aware of the situation. She told a black woman, who was concerned about racist remarks from the friends of her white husband, that if she was concerned about racist remarks that she shouldn't marry out of her race... then went on to say the word eleven times (in a rather short call, with two occasions simply being her saying "N*****, n*****, n*****" like a taunt). She also used those repeated uses of the word, and the illustration of black comics using it, as an example of why it's fine for her husband's white friends to throw that term at the woman, and why it wasn't racist. That's a wee bit more than citing a double standard. (yeah, I've listened to the entire call)

So yeah... I think you're kinda missing the context there. You're also missing the fact that Palin stated that Dr. Laura shouldn't be fired thanks to "freedom of speech" despite the fact that it wouldn't apply in such a situation, showing that Palin doesn't even have a basic understanding of how the document she so cherishes is applied.

And she has a son with a mental disability.

Sorry, yes... son. Trig Palin. The gender totally changes the hypocrisy...

And of course, using "retard" as a pejorative against those without a learning disability isn't any different than using the term "moron" or "imbecile" or "cretin". In fact, it's exactly the same. They're all dated terminology used by the medical profession to describe those with mental issues.

I read the transcript of the call when that all happened (I could never stand to listen to her on the radio). Again, at no point does Dr. Laura refer to anyone as n*****. She utters the word over and over again trying to make her point (and yeah, for the shock value) that there's an obvious double standard going on. Whether you think that double standard is justified or not, it's still a double standard. If she had said "N-word" instead would she have avoided the trouble she got in? So her unpardonable sin is not that she called anyone n***** but that she pronounced the word out? And for the record, I don't agree with her argument that the woman's in-laws behavior should be excused because black comics say it.

And for Palin's son, didn't Bill Maher actually call him a "retard"?
