To my understanding we went there looking for bin Laden. We killed him in Pakistan. I'd say we're done.

I understand that we we're trying to make "democratic" governments but we shouldn't just ignore our own problems. Our government feels like the dad that ignored his own children and their problems when he was helping other kids be the best they can be. Sure it sounds good, but what about your own flesh and blood?

I am the type that supports isolationism (except for trade). If the people want equal rights and freedom bad enough they will fight for it. We did it, admittedly with the help of the French, but come on!!!

Pulling out is a good thing :yesyes:

Yes. We never should have gone in with troops in the first place. Everything should have been done with intelligence and special forces just as it played out. There was no need for an invasion.

Bush, Cheney and all the Generals that have and continue to suggest that we stay there are just assholes.

War is a bit more complicated than that. It required more boots on the ground. This isn't CoD.

I didn't know Bush, Cheney, and all the Generals were still around.

Pull out? Doesn't sound manly to me, Bill. I say let's leave it in there and get the job done.

That's the thing though, didn't we get the job done? We took out Bin Laden and we've essentially eliminated Al-Qaeda as I read somewhere that there are something like 100 Al-Qaeda fighters left in Afghanistan.

Yes - so the Taliban can return to killing women for going to school and the export this stupidity, uninhibited, to further reaches of the world.

They are pulling out regardless. They begun peace talks with the Taliban months ago as they realised after 10 years of war they were never going to win, there is simply too much support for the Taliban who can easily replenish their numbers. I've said it before that Afghanistan isn't ready for our type of democracy yet and we can't force it upon them. They are still deep rooted in the tribal system and we need to let these countries develop at their own pace without external influence, the Afghans have to rebel against the Taliban once enough people have become sick of them like what we see in the Arab rising, at the moment the Taliban have way too much support. It's a sad state of affairs but some countries are not at our standard yet and we need them to find out the hard way about true freedom like the west did during the French Revolution, War Of Independence and English civil war etc.

U.S. in talks with Taliban in move that could end the war in Afghanistan

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
What is our continued purpose there? Karzai himself refers to us as occupiers. I'm not interested in maintaining a military presence there in order to prop up his corrupt regime. It's not our role nor responsibility to be nation-builders.

Get our troops out now, Mr. Obama.

We'll have to go Mongol sooner or later with these people.

I'm surprised that no mentioned Mullah Omar. He was the leader of the Afghan government before the invasion, the one who allowed Bin Laden to set up camp there and direct the 9-11 terrorist plot. If we pull out, I believe the current Afghan regime may fall and Mullah Omar return to power. In my opinion, we are not done in Afghanistan. Once we kill that piece-of-shit Mullah Omar, then I say, bring our troops home!

not only yes but hell yes! Pull out of everywhere and let someone else step up and start dealing with the issues of the world. We have enough shit to deal with over here. Im sick of the gov spending trillions on other countries while claiming there is no money for our own problems.

Spoken like a true jackass that just doesn't get it. How do you think we finally caught Bin Laden? We found him through intelligence. We've had boots on the ground for 10 years now and they came up empty handed because Bin Laden wasn't in Afghanistan. WE FOUND OUT HE WAS IN PAKISTAN! THROUGH INTELLIGENCE! We then sent in a special forces team to get him.
