Should I drop out of college?

Aight, as ya'll know I couldnt get a job for ages. Then I got 2 writing jobs which is great. Except I started a PhD concurrently, which is cool and all but I cant be bothered with it.

I could take 4 years and work really slowly towards a Mphil (lesser research degree) ore just pack it in.

Advice?

I wouldn't do that if I were you.......
I didn't go to college immediately after high school and I ended up paying for it later cause i couldn't find a decent job. Now, at least I have my degree and I am working fairly well. But I didn't realize it then, but I know it now the importance of having that little piece of paper that says College Graduate

I was bored and had nothing else to do, so enrolled on a doctorate which is costing me £2400 a year atm in fees.

Get your doctorate. You've already started which is one thing. If you were just considering curtailing a budding career in favor of returning..then I would say ...take the training wheels off of your career then revisit the doctorate (when money presumably isn't an object or some corporation you're working for is helping you with the tuition).

PhD?
Ride it out Dr. (to be) !

Can you just take a semester off, then decide? Are you enjoying your classes? Will it help you a lot or just a little? That's not the kind of decision you should make on a whim IMHO.

I feel for your predicament, when I finished my MA I was all set to work on my PhD, but I was just tired of not having any cash, so I got a job, and 15 years later, I kinda wish I would have continued and I'm thinking hard about going back to get it.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
Sarte would say that you've made your decision and are simply seeking that we justify it.

The fact you say you can't be bothered answers your question for you, to do a PhD you should really have a burning interest in the subject it is on. I fucked up my dissertations on my masters and BA because they bored me and i spent 2 weeks on them instead of the required 6 months, after a lot of unhealthy stress i scraped through both my BA and MA. Having the intelligence and ability will only get you halfway, you need enthusiasm, commitment and desire to get you the rest of the way.

Out of interest, what subject did you take?

I'm only a freshman in college, so I can't really provide too much of an accurate opinion. I think if you don't have the desire to get a phd then maybe it would make sense to drop out. But you should also consider the long-term benefits before you do it for sure. Depends how much you care about material success. :2 cents:

Business Admin for BA and Human Resources for Masters as they seemed the easiest. For a dumb fucker like me to end up with both they probably were, I was in the last year when our course fees were still paid, I was pissed at the time for not getting a grant like my friends did which was around 2.5k per year that you didn't even pay back. Then you started having to pay the 1k per year course fees and now it's something like 3k per year with a job market where nothing is guaranteed.

Do the PhD - Best feeling ever when I got mine. I did try to convince my wife that she had to wear a nurse outfit and call me Dr for a week - no joy though since I am a Dr of Rocks.
