Let's assume that all children are wanted (which is not true, but anyway)...not all parents can afford to have children and the chances of affording children go from non-existent when the parents are 18-24, to maybe when the parents are 25-28, to likely when the parents are 29-36. Philosophically does our society improve when most of our younger generations start off behind the 8 ball economically?

You will lose more money buying a new vehicle. Especially if you just keep it for a few years then trade it in.

Hmm. I'm not sure how you can enter into the minds of 'most people.' The only way for 'most non-college educated people' to afford kids (plural) is to run up large debts. That's not wise. You've already stated in other threads that college is useless--so how can a "Joe the Plumber" afford the big truck, the gas, a home payment (or rent), plus all the purchasing required of children (food, clothing, diapers, etc.) if his wife stays at home? Even home schooling children is expensive.

I kind of think most people who actually say they can't afford children actually can't afford children. I'm not saying most adults don't want to have children. I personally don't know any personal friends who've ever said "I'm not having any children.":dunno: Men can just "walk away" from fatherhood, anyway. It's called "being a deadbeat dad" and it's a very popular thing for men to do today, moreso than 50 years ago....
