Character actor Bill Erwin has died at 96. His film, stage, and TV parts spanned half a century. But he gained the most attention for his guest appearance on a "Seinfeld" episode in 1993 titled "Old Man."
In the "Seinfeld" episode that earned the white-haired actor an Emmy nomination, Erwin is a paranoid shut-in who is sure Jerry is sent from the CIA to **** him -- not, as Jerry assures him, to befriend him as part of a "******-a-Grandpa" program.
In the hilarious bit, Erwin, as the cranky character Sid Fields, tells Seinfeld, "I wasn't born yesterday. I may drop dead today, but I sure wasn't born yesterday."

Erwin can be seen in many past hit shows, including "Growing Pains," "Gunsmoke," "The Golden Girls," "The Twilight Zone," and "Who's the Boss?," among others.
The Texan also gained notoriety as Arthur the Bellman in the 1980 time-travel drama "Somewhere in Time," starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. People magazine notes that the Californian often returned to the site of the film, the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan for reunions with cult followers of the drama.
