Actually, as soon as he gets out of the joint, he'll be a 6th-year senior in high school. :D

Sheeit, pre-college doctorate in flunkery? ;)

Sounds like my kinda guy. I'd buy him a beer if I saw him.

Plato & the story of Glaucon's Ring

WASHINGTON - Scientists say they are a step closer to developing materials that could render people and objects invisible. Researchers have demonstrated for the first time they were able to cloak three-dimensional objects using artificially engineered materials that redirect light around the objects.

The new work moves scientists a step closer to hiding people and objects from visible light, which could have broad applications, including military ones.

the ONLY implications of this work are military and political. PLATO long ago 'proved' that all humans are naturally, intrinsically selfish by using a hypothetical situation - imagine someone finds a ring - and wearing this ring makes you invisible - YOU KNOW YOU WOULD USE IT TO FURTHER YOUR OWN INTERESTS - ESPECIALLY AT THE EXPENSE OF THOSE WHO COULDN;T SEE YOU! Well this was plato's proof - some will say that they would use the ring for good - but Plato asks that we be honest with ourselves here and admit that we would automatically do things we ordinarily would not do as visible creatures - (from this judgment that 'all human are selfish' comes Plato's political programme to control and regulate this selfishness - and of course the best way to do this would be to have a 'philosopher-king' who has renounced all appetites and desires as head of state - he, and only he should serve 'the republic' as absolute decision maker.

WOW.

Now it seems PLATO'S ring is becoming a reality.

the guys in the CIA must be creaming their freaking pants.

I've always thought it was interesting that you could still see the jacket that kid is wearing. College physics taught me why, but for some reason I really thought that true invisibility would be closer to reality today.

Plato is a dick, and just because that's what he'd do, doesn't mean that is what everyone else would do.

Apparently, they created a 'cloak' a couple of years ago... but they couldn't find it anywhere.

close to finding an "invisibility cloak"? I don't know man, I just don't see it.
