As you can see, douchebaggery can be an integral component of being an asshat. Much research has been done on this subject and the consensus of the community does support this theory. Yet when we come to your Asshat of the Year claim, there are no facts to support this as seen below:

The theory of Ace being Asshat of the Year can be traced to the original findings from the nomination process. The nominations started on 12/5 and concluded on 12/15. A careful examination of the below thread provides conclusive evidence that although Ace posted a nomination, he was not himself nominated and thus not in the running for the award:

In the end we can see where such claims of Ace being Asshat of the Year can come from. But with the myriad of information provided, it is clear that Ace is not Asshat of the Year.
