Sad news R.I.P Gary Gygax. :(

I was never into Dungeons and Dragons, but I sure did have a lot of fun making jokes about the people that did. So R.I.P. to the man that helped give me so much fodder for those insults.:D

Warning: Above message was in no way intended to mock or degrade the life of this man. I am truly sorry he died, I hope he can find peace in the next life.

I'm no stranger to D&D. I've read quite a few D&D-based books over the years. A number of PC games that I've played were also associated with it, using its rules and/or being set in its worlds. Some of R.A. Salvatore's books, Planescape: Torment, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic were particularly inspirational. I won't ever forget their stories.

R.I.P., Gygax.

This, of course, calls for 1d6 minutes of silence.

It's being talked about on the role playing boards I go to. He ended up affecting more people and maybe even popular culture more than anybody ever realized when he started. Tolkein might have set the genre, but without Gygax doing what he did I wonder if that type of fantasy world would have ever become remotely as popular as it has gotten, or if we would ever had anything close to the number of books, movies, or video games on the subject we have now. I wonder if things like the Lord of the Rings movies, World or Warcraft and other MMORPGs, Harry Potter, the Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms worlds among others by authors like Brooks and Fiest, or maybe even stuff like the Final Fantasy games would even exist now if not for that. Some of them are my favorite books and movies of all time. I don't play D&D that much anymore but I remember starting when I was 5. It has always been good times, and in some ways I still think using your imagination in it is better than a kid sitting in front of the television for hours on end like most of them do now. That’s a lot to come from somebody wanting to take tabletop war games one step further a couple decades ago.

Don't forget the influence that Gygax/DnD/Role-Playing had on Collectible Card Games (i.e. Magic: The Gathering). And I would have to agree, Gygax's influence spreads farther than would think, or would admit to.

In the last several years I've started playing non d20 systems but because of Gary and D&D, these systems probably wouldn't be what they are. Not to mention because of Gary, one of the greatest Cons happens every year (aside from Dragon Con). :) May all his dice forever roll 20s. (ok, yes, I'm a geek)

Never played Dungeons & Dragons, but I am a big fan of computer RPGs. Arguably, computer RPGs would never have been what they were if not for Gygax, thougjh. Rest in Peace, Gary. You brought joy to so many.

I don't know about the game So I don't know Co-Creator but it is real sad thing if some one dies... someone lost his/her beloved one... he might be Brother, father, Husband of someone... So this is Sad news.... :(
