My choice is Al Pacino.
His character portrayals have been consistantly "different" from one another. From Godfather 1 & 2, And Justice For all, Serpico, Scarface, Scent Of A Woman, Heat (which I think he stole the show from De Niro) right up to The Insider, Pacino has consistantly become the "character" in the film. Whereas I find De Niro repeats the same De Niro formula over and over.

When I watch Taxi Driver and Raging Bull I see two of the most amazing performances on camera... yet in virtually every film thereafter I see the same performances.... With The Exception of Cape Fear, I always feel I'm watching the same combination of Jake Lomatta and Travis Bickle.
The Untouchables, Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, Sleepers, Cop Land, etc... I never see anything new with De Niro.

Both are great actors though... and when it comes to comedy, DeNiro definately has the edge.

By far Al Pacino. Scarface and The Godfather trilogy are all u need to see to know the answer to this question.

De Niro got an Oscar for The Godfather pt2. Pacino got nominated for all but never won. I cannot and will not pick between them.

Rey C.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
Really tough call. De Niro (and what he went through to prepare for that role) in Raging Bull and Once Upon A Time In America breaks the tie in De Niro's favor, IMO.

Still a close call. Pacino is a great actor too.

I like both of them , but if I was too pick whose films I would rather watch again...............it would have to be Pacino's!!!!!

De Niro has done more good movies than Pacino but Pacinos good movies are better than De Niros , if you catch my drift..

Al Pacino's one character Tony Montana is a more memorable character to me than the whole of Robert De Niro's collection of characters that he's added to his CV over the years. And for that reason alone I voted Al Pacino.

DeNiro is better.

Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
Once Upon A Time in America
Goodfellas

None of Pacino's performances even come close the greatness exibited in each of those roles.

I like them both. In general, I prefer the movies that DeNiro is in, but I believe Al Pacino is a far better actor with more range.

Pacino. All three "Godfather" films are outstanding, as is "Scent of a Woman", "Scarface", "Heat", "Carlito's Way" and "Serpico". De Niro only has a handful of films I consider him to be really good in, though - "Taxi Driver", "Godfather Part II", "Heat" and "The Deer Hunter". Anything else, I'm not fussed. And don't get me started on De Niro's attempted comedy career, or the piss poor waste of shit that was "Righteous Kill", an embarrassment for both of them.

I think people forget De Niro has been in a couple of comedies. He's been able to expand in many areas. I still thought he was tops in Showtime (as much as the movie was forgettable overall). De Niro is great at playing a variety of characters and attitudes.

Pacino is still great as well. Playing off of De Niro in Heat was excellent. Those two are excellent together. Yes, Righteous Kill wasn't their best. But I don't think they should give up on working together. That was the movie, not themselves.

I won't vote. The two were stellar in Heat ... a "Dead Heat" in my vote. ;)

I voted De Niro. It's hard to pick between the two but I think De Niro has a bit wider range of acting, which includes the comedy that he has done.
