Rivalry Movies

Just watched Rush, the formula one movie. Pretty good. Insane how much Hemsworth and Bruel? Look like Hunt and Lauda. Seems to have been a pretty accurate portrayal from what I've read too.

These guys hated each other at first, but respected each other and even drew inspiration from one another. What are some other movies about a good heated rivalry?

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Ricky Bobby is a brash NASCAR driver who lives by the axiom: "If you ain't first, you're last." He lives to drive fast, whereas most drive fast to live.

His arch nemesis is a French formula one driver who is cool, calculating and seems to get the better of Ricky Bobby at every turn both on the track and in a battle of wits.

The contrasting personalities sets the stage for some major conflict down the road as well as some very powerful and emotional scenes.

A tour de force.

Mr Coach Kline vs Red Beaulieu in The Waterboy is a pretty good rivalry. Rocky Balboa and Clubber Lang from Rocky III is probably the best rivalry of the franchise. Kevin McCallister vs the Sticky Bandits in Home Alone 2 is pretty awesome. Peter Griffin vs The Big Yellow Chicken is always an epic battle.

I haven't seen Rush yet, but from everything I've read, Ron Howard did a masterful job with that movie. As a kid, Niki Lauda was my favorite driver. And F1 is my favorite (pretty much only) sport these days. So I'm glad to hear that you liked it.

Though the overall focus is a bit different, Senna is somewhat similar to Rush, in that it shows the even more intense rivalry (purple hatred) between Ayrton Senna da Silva and Alain Prost. That's easily the most intense rivalry that has been in F1 in my lifetime. They did reconcile before Ayrton was killed in 1994 - but they never became pals or anything.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
Brian's Song is a pretty good example.

Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers start out as rivals playing the same position and become good friends over time.

How about the Rocky movies? Balboa and Creed were big enemies at first, but Creed assisted Balboa in Part III and they became close friends
