Restrictions on newbies posting

A little bit tongue-in-cheek and a little bit serious....

I think newbies should be restricted to just a couple of posts a day, until they notch up say 50 posts.
They seem to get all giddy once they start posting, putting up a dozen trivial posts in a five minutes and get up everyone's back up as a result.

I'm sure no-one is with me on this, so I'll just shut up now...

I think I'm still in the giddy stage. I think that limiting the post # takes away a lot of the freedom the a message board is supposed to entail. But your point is valid.

negative rep may help newbie by showing them the right way to follow
just don't abuse of neg rep to don't frighten them.

Could make them take an IQ test and depending on the score, limits your amount of posts per day.

wow, i actually agree with tunsty, this would also stop returning members from spamming up the board

I don't think all the blame should be put on newbies... I've seen plenty of veteran posters using bandwidth by postng "bump" on a ton of threads. I've also seen plenty just lash out at others as well. Newbie or veteran, I don't think there is one group who has a higher percentage of bogus posts than the other.

Just my newbie opinion

Member, you member...
Newbies don't bother me personally, but I am apprehensive of welcoming because of the many return attempts.
TJ above makes a valid point.

nooooooooo...

That would also eliminate the occasional person that comes on and in the first day post 45 posts that all consist of one or two words each. I think I have seen that happen once or twice already.

Actually, can we just have a restriction on juballs?,
otherwise I'm never going to catch up with him :D

You can always secretly send his girl flowers in his name. Then, when she gets him distracted that night sneak on ahead of the guy. ;)

I agree with thomasjenkins.
Rep & Mods are in place for just this reason; Checks & Balances. Do we really need restrictions? I say keep with the open forum. Bad rep for bad posts, trust in our officials, and community faith. A true democracy :glugglug: .

But that means juballs could be a mod someday  .

what the heak! put a restriciton on me!!! never..

as for the flowers part... sure send her flowers... saves me from spending money which could be spent on expensive gasoline

You got the right priorities

Good point Tunsty, we have been looking into this, especially against spammers - my idea was to not allow a new member to post a URL before making 10 posts. But the system doesn't have something like that. :(

It's good to be the king...
I'm still trying to understand why a newbie would use "FU" on their second post.....
