Reputation Problem - There is a Cap

Interesting problem cropped up over the weekend. Mr Dirk PM'd me to let me know his rep power stopped updating.

Come to find out, there's an internal limit to reputation. It's set at 2 billion rep points total (the number in your user CP, not on your posts). I asked the programmer to raise the cap, but it can't be raised since the PHP won't allow it...it's a 32-bit number so it's a limitation of the operating system itself.

At this very moment, there are 2 members who have reached this cap. Rep power will never increase for them again.

- 10 members are 500 million away from this cap
- 30 members are 1 billion away
- 88 members are 1.5 billion away
- 328 members are 1 billion away

With rep being as inflated as it is, we will have the 456 members listed above hitting that cap sooner rather than later.

I was planning on adjusting rep to a more reasonable level when the new board came out, in about a month and a half. However, in light of the given situation, I'm thinking about doing it now.

What do you think?

- Do nothing?
- Adjust it now?
- Reset it so everyone is at 0 again seeing we hit the limit?

okay, thanks Roald :hybrid: er, not sure R ( I will ponder on this .... ). even more frustrating though is the limit on repping someone in succession -- that really is bloody annoying ! I wanted to rep mrt my friend and i could not -- and now he is unhappy with me ! :stir:
