Remember the First Time?

I bet you can remember the first time you did something that made you feel like an adult. Not sex, but the first car you bought on your own, the first house or apartment you moved into, whatever. Most of us have something that we did that we were proud of ourselves about and it made us feel like a grown up. For me it was having my ***, but I was barely 17 and clueless to the real world. as I think back on it the first thing that made me FEEL like an adult was when I bought my first medical policy back in 1999. I remember sitting in the agent's office on Ventura in West Hills right off Valley Circle signing the papers and I said to him "Wow, I guess it's official I'm a grown up now." It was a Blue Cross Blue Shield of California policy and it cost me $298 month for my *** and I. I remember all the other porn girls bitching constantly how none of them had insurance but some with **** were on medical which is the California version of medicaid. They made way too much money but they were just not reporting it or the state didn't check and if you are a single ****** you can almost get it automatically.

I remember this moment in my life fondly. I hated making that payment every month, but at first I loved the feeling of being responsible and making sure we were taken care of.

It's moments like that where I find the reasoning and logic to pay my share and hopefully help someone else have the security that their **** are covered and they don't have to worry about them getting sick.

So for people like BC who has bragged about his income and his investments I would think he would be willing to part with a few hundred dollars more a year to make it possible for a young ****** or someone with a pre-existing condition who was never able to get care before have such a feeling. I'm sure he remembers his first purchase as a successful adult and how it felt, so why be so fucking greedy and not be willing to help make that happen for someone else. Someone with a job that pays them ****? Someone trying to work their way up in the world from the bottom but might have asthma or a kidney problem or something similar.

I'm sure you can think of that moment in your life and how good it felt. Why not pay it forward? Is the few hundred $$$ not worth it to you?

I'd have no problem paying into a medical model that I knew with 100 percent certainty was going to be run honestly and truly for the benefit of the people but unfortunately I know better and I know what this healthcare act is really about, now I have no choice but to pay into it just as being a US citizen, I am ****** to pay into social security and the slew of taxes that come with being a 14th amendment citizen but it does not mean I have to like it I really deep down want to see a lot more healthier people in the US and throughout the world but IMO there are better ways of healing, the doctors are not free to truly heal people, the corrupt AMA has made sure this will never happen because there is no money in curing, the money is in disease management

That's the damn truth, and there's not enough preventative medicine, i.e. the promotion of healthier lifestyles. God forbid Michelle Obama suggest people get more exercise and ***** more water. I would truly like to see investment in community wellness centers.

I remember coming here from Australia at age 26 and finding out that in this supposedly developed country people could die because they couldn't afford to see a doctor, or go bankrupt because a member of their ****** developed a chronic illness. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that in this country your pay isn't just in dollars, but in access to healthcare for yourself and your ******. The concept of worrying about what a doctor or hospital visit might cost you was so unthinkable to me before I experienced it.
I believe that basic rights include access to affordable healthcare, affordable education, and a safety net in times of need. And in light of that, I don't really consider the USA a "first world country." A first world country wouldn't have such extreme poverty, hunger, and homelessness.
It's inspiring that the majority of Americans want to change that, and disheartening that some are trying to stop the progress. Those ones deserve nothing but our contempt.

right on I'm not saying that a 100 percent organic lifestyle with no ********, ******** and risky activities would prevent all disease because you will always have people who will get degenerative diseases but living a clean lifestyle does greatly lessen many people's chances of becoming terminally ill in their later years

The whole system is corrupt...and it needs to be fixed before the American public is expected to pay more. The elderly, veterans, sure they deserve the best...in today's economy, many hard working men and women, with and without ******** have run through their unemployment benefits, and are on assistants, and they deserve it, they've earned it, but as mentioned by Mariah, many girls in the industry have not reported income, and because some are *******, they get benefits easily...and I don't feel they deserve it. That's just one industry, and I'm sure a small percentage, but they aren't the only ones that do it. I find it hard to believe the records don't show a huge number of people that have receiving welfare, and medicaid for far longer then they should have been receiving it. I understand, and have no problem helping...but those that have earned it, not those who want it. I still feel like these people could be doing their part to help clean up the streets, painting houses, in depressed areas...earning their keep. Unless you can prove you've paid into the system for a reasonable time, or served your country you should have to earn what you get.
