Recession fueling right-wing extremism, U.S. says

MIAMI (Reuters) – Right-wing extremists in the United States are gaining new recruits by exploiting fears about the economy and the election of the first black U.S. president, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report to law enforcement officials.

Extremist groups are preying on fears that President Barack Obama, the first African American U.S. president, would restrict gun ownership, boost immigration and expand social programs for minorities, the report said.

It said such groups were also exploiting anti-Semitic sentiment with accusations that "a cabal of Jewish financial elites" had conspired to collapse the economy.

It sounds like a project to further isolate and marginalize the minority opposition to me. It's all based upon assumption, I don't like it !

Thank You, janet "neopolitano" :pukey: :barf:

To be honest with ourselves, is there anybody out here that actually doesn't think he will do this, or at least where he thinks about it if he doesn't try to do it? :dunno:

Those doesn’t seem like some far off farfetched fears.

Uh, oh, looks like those groups will be knocking on your door soon.

Mine too, I think. :(

Again, the gulf between Candidate Obama and President Obama is striking. As a candidate, Obama ran promising a new era of government transparency and accountability, an end to the Bush DOJ's radical theories of executive power, and reform of the PATRIOT Act. But, this week, Obama's own Department Of Justice has argued that, under the PATRIOT Act, the government shall be entirely unaccountable for surveilling Americans in violation of its own laws.

This isn't change we can believe in. This is change for the worse.

President Barack Obama is tapping another RIAA attorney into the Justice Department.

Monday's naming of Ian Gershengorn, to become the department's deputy assistant attorney of the Civil Division, comes more than a week after nearly two-dozen public interest groups, trade pacts and library coalitions urged the new president to quit filling his administration with lawyers plucked from the Recording Industry Association of America.

hmm. why does this sound familiar?

i assume this is a reference to the 'jews took down the trade centers' conspiracy...well a shit ton of conspiracies involve jews i suppose almost all of them rising from some form of the protocols of the elders of zion...but that's my guess on what you're referring to :D what strikes me most about this is the line about how the US has been so focused upon islamic extremist they haven't been looking at other extremists...awesome...ignoring extremists has worked out so well in the past: oklahoma city bombing, trade centers (the failure and the success), 16th street baptist church bombing, etc, etc, etc

No, it's not right wing extremism that's growing, it's a growing realization that maybe people don't like the shameless power grab and reckless spending that's gone on in the first 50+ days of this president's term.

It's a political pendulum, and the thing will swing back and forth as long as we're all alive. If there's one thing these folks are good at, it's shooting themselves in the feet. We're pretty much at the end of the left swing, and so now it will swing right for however many years, and then left again.

I'll grant you, this is probably the furthest left it's ever gone here in the US, and I'm not wild about the amount of debt being piled up for my kids and grandkids, but it hardly started with this administration. They're just expanding it.

Huh??? Where's the other thread?? I missed that.
:dunno:

Anyway, here's a rather good article about this, the DHS report, and the right's reaction to it:

http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/conservatives-indict-themselves-shri

What's your buddy, Mo Deez over on the far extreme left suggesting . . . ? something to the effect of any former military enlistee that happens to have blue or green eyes and sports a crew cut is likely to be the next coming of timothy mcveigh. :spin:

Only a handful of individuals get rich running a joint like the "law poverty centre of the south" . . . isn't that like capitalism ? The proceeds get gobbled up by the CEOs and the loyal rank and file either get pink slipped, black listed, furloughed or just go home on Friday with a check that barely covers basic bills ? guess not :dunno::confused:

At the end of the day wtf has mo produced ?

ANS : A more contentious living environment for us all ! COMMUNIST ! :D  :)

Another example of THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY covering their asses for a worsening future economy they created.
The first paragraph implies if you do not agree with or support "the first black presidents" actions and decisions you are a racisct and extremist.
Sounds a little facist.
But its funny how again the ones always mentioning skin color are accusing others of racism.

Since sept 11 2001 I watched the world become left wing extremists.
Criticizing a man, a political party, and a country no matter what he/they /it did.
No mention of extremism then.

Agree with the PREZ - or you are an extremist
Sounds a bit like a totalitarian leadership to me.

This is good:
The report warned that military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat skills could be recruitment targets, especially those having trouble finding jobs or fitting back into civilian society.

Another great reason to join the military, get labeled a racist and extremist for life.

Fuck that article, fuck the people who wrote it and fuck the people who believe it.
Its just another form of thought control.

I keep thinking of the movie First Blood, the first of the Rambo series. A vet coming back from an unpopular and lost war (that was unpopular with and lost due to the efforts of the American left as the one today) coming back home traumatized, PTSD case, that couldn't find a job, been spit upon by left wing commie trash, calling him baby killer (or nowadays terrorists or rapists or murderers), I wonder if this is a remake in the making for that movie.

Lovely!!! We're sacrificing lives and ransom fighting extremism elsewhere while some are hell bent on fertilizing it here?:helpme:

Well, that's the way it works in a free country...at least so far.
There is no way to stifle free expression or dissent with the government by the governed...

Oh, while on the subject of fertilizer...
There's no controlling the hate speech from the left Wing or the Democratic Party.

(Except the next Congressional election...)

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
did someone actually say that the Democrats created this mess? Honestly? they are all a bunch of fucks and have driven this country into the ground. Each party is a joke. The US Senate should be ashamed of itself. Each and every one of them. the Dems have been in office less than nine years since 1981. They controlled Congress for much of it. The two parties worked hand in hand to drive us deeper in debt to foreign countries and to allow corporations to assume more and more control.

this trivial banter about the right and left is a complete waste of time. THEY fucked us. Those in power have been doing it since 1981. i don't blame one party or the other. It was a power and money grab, and we as a populace let it happen. No use bitching about the cupboard being bare now.

Obama is answering to someone now too. Blow away the smoke and realize that the machine is still rolling along like it did when W was "in charge", just a different masthead.

The right and left are all hypocrits. It's about money and who has it. Right now they are taking it all.

Gotta admit...there's a lot of truth to what you said; sad truth, but by and large the "real thing".

Wow, this thread devolved quickly!

Read this for an even BETTER smackdown of the right's histrionics over this Homeland Security report:
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/04/14/surveillance/

"For now, though, one can't help but note that these "conservatives" seem so very angry about a federal government program designed to do nothing other than protect the glorious Homeland from Terrorists. And we know that this is the purpose of the DHS program because that's what the Government said its purpose is. So what else is there to know? That's the lesson we all learned over the last eight years: Bush said that all of his secret surveillance programs were only directed at Al Qaeda, so how can anyone say otherwise?

Apparently, though, the Right has forgotten these important lessons about Trusting Our Political Leaders and instead is now embracing a newfound and quite disturbing devotion to Terrorist Rights. To borrow from Sarah Palin, they are apparently more worried about whether the Timothy McVeighs and Eric Rudolphs of the world can plan their next violent attack without interference from the DHS than they are in having the Government keep us all Safe. What kind of twisted, warped, subversive political movement prioritizes Terrorist Rights over the Safety of Americans like this?"

Don't get it tangled. I'm the last person who wants to stifle freedom of expression or speech.

But the extremism some are articulating has nothing to do with mere freedom of expression, speech or dissent.

And nowhere to be found were these free speechers when the GWB admin crowded all the cheerleaders around him and moved the protesters to "free speech zones" in some cases a mile away.

The whole country is a "free speech zone"!

I believe no matter how damning the speech it ought to be protected. But inciting crimes shouldn't be.

Absolutely. Those extremists within the US would like nothing more than sending a message to the federal government in the form of another Kansas City style bombing. I bet there are many in that group that want Obama dead the moment he's elected President. It's funny that those right wingers and ultraconservatives constantly complain about Obama not doing enough to protect US from terrorists, yet they fully condone those people who are capable of committing the terrorist acts themselves in the name of freedom to bear arms and whatnot.
