RealPlayer - Help Please!

Fellas, please help me. I have RealPlayer on my PC and I keep getting messages telling me to update it, but I've tried the new one and it's rubbish. How can I get rid of the update software and the messagecenter, it pops up all the time and is really annoying me.
Any help gets reps, cheers fellas! :helpme: :wave2:

First of all - I'm no computer technician - it's very possible someone else may be along with better advice than mine.

Having said that, I think you simply need to delete the new program. To do so go to start, then settings, then control panel. Double click on Add/Remove Programs. A page including an alphabatized list of programs will appear. Highlight the version of Real Player you want to delete, then click the Add/Remove box. A prompt shoud appear asking if you're sure you want to delete that program. Click yes.

PS: After removing the upgrade I'd also advise removing the previous version from your list of startup programs (which I highly suspect it is). But we can discuss that after you've removed the upgrade.

Do what Bodie said, delete that piece of ****. Realplayer is a virus that will take over everything and suck up resources. If you need to play real media files you can download a codec called "real alternative," and you can use all your real files with windows media player. You can get it here: Premium Link Upgrade

You're right Mongo, realplayer is a pernicious s.o.b.
It's controllable, but to do so requires a bit of micro managing after each use, and who needs that if there are better alternatives.
good post.

Just get rid of it. Real Player is terrible. Basically use anything else that will work. Windows Media Player gets the job done.

There are plenty of free video players that will handle Real Player files. As has already mentioned , Real Player is a pain to live with and you're better off removing it altogether. The same applies to Quicktime although QT isn't quite as intrusive.

**** RealPlayer. That's the most expert piece of advice I can give you. Plus.. I really dont feel like advising *anyone* to keep realplayer installed but disable their bullshit startcenter thing. Far, FAAARRR too many apps load at system start these days. If you're not using quicktime at all, I'd recommend getting rid of that, too. Same with your printer software.. antivirus... (not anti-spyware/malware tho.. at least if you're using internet explorer.. might as well protect yourself if you go off riding your dick into the net)

I got Realplayer because Windows Media Player refuses so many file types, and RP was recommended by some "genuine" sites that I visited. It's been fine until recently, when it has downloaded the new version and then tried to install it every time I turn on my laptop.

I do have Quicktime, but it never seems to work, so I will delete it now.

I also have VLC player, it seems to work fine with everything, but is it safe?

Thanks for all the help so far fellas, reps are coming. :wave2:

VLC is certainly safe, it's an excellent player. Try also MediaPlayer Classic and SM player. All are free and you will find that you won't miss Windows media Player at all.
