Raider Hate!

In the last decade or so people dislike the team because they are lead by an out of touch, living in the past, ignorant (or maybe going senile) owner that likes to screw with his team do to executive meddling. They are dysfunctional, don't have good coaches, have lazy or apathetic players, and a lot of the teams people have shady characteristics. The team has a way of destroying some of the few good players' careers they have. The fans are also some of the most oblivious and irrational in all of sports, if not the most oblivious and most irrational. Like their owner they like to live in the past. A lot of people consider them jerks.

In the past people disliked them because they were very good, but also borderline dirty at best and completely that way at worst. Davis had a "just win baby" philosophy, and they had no qualms about doing anything they could get away with to win. They had a lot of people in the organization that weren't great people characterwise too, like now. While the fans weren't oblivious, irrational or living in the past back then, they were still irritating and considered jerks by a lot of people.

Good feedback from a lot of people here. I believe like most teams, the Raiders are just going through a slump. They'll probably bounce back after Al kicks the bucket. Don't know how soon that will be though. The man is 80 and he is still fiery. Senile, but fiery. I will admit though, I like the Raiders of old. I do believe a little bit of what gunslingingbird was saying about them doing things ass backward. Hell, I watched the debauchery that was the New Orleans Saints during my time in the South(Which I have currently moved back to. . .*sigh*). I was reminded about this when I heard about them supposedly wanting to trade away Nnamdi Asomugha at the drop of a hat. Yeah, well, there goes the Raiders defense because the only person left now is Richard Seymor. I actually like Tom Cable. He actually seems pretty cool and I am onboard with him 100% as far as lazy ass JaMarcus Russel goes. Don't know whats wrong with that guy, but he makes me appreciate guys like T.O. To quote Jim Rome "Dude! You got Ryan Leaf mad at you for all the talent you are squandering."

The Raiders lost me forever when Al DAvis fucked over Marcus Allen--arguably the greatest all-around player in the history of football

It's very interesting, cuz muh Raiders are like the Yankees and Lakers and other winning teams like that, where they have a big fan base, and everyone else hates them.. Except that they do not win, and the days of them being bastards on the field and thus making them hateable are long gone. Yet everyone still hates them. I never understood why.

Well, most people hate the Yankees and Lakers (And Red Wings, for an NHL example) not only because they are so popular, but because the team actually deserves to be popular. They are year-in and year-out one of the best teams (Ignoring the fact the whole MLB salary cap thing). They have tons of fans because people love to cheer for the winners. But with the Raiders, it's like... What do Raiders fans have to be proud of? Their team (Outside of their Super Bowl run year) has pretty much sucked. They have a owner who constantly fucks over the team as well as the league, and yet they have probably the most violently supportive fans in the league. And that's not a good thing.

But the Yankees and Lakers usually win a title at least every now and then...
The Raiders haven't won a Super Bowl in 25+ years. And it's been a while since they at least had a decent season.
Can't really hate a team that makes me laugh, the thing I hate about them is their fans. They are probably the worse.

Exactly my point. They don't win, but are still hated. And I don't see why people hate the fans. Unlike Laker and Yankee fans, we actually deeply care about our team, and don't just like them just to be fashionablee.

I've been to over a dozen 49er games over the years. I've never seen any trouble, I'm sure there's a few drunk fans that get a little out of hand, but you'll find that at any big event. If I had children and the finances I would not hesitate to take them to a 49er game. On the other hand at the Raiders games, unruly fans are the rule rather than the exception. I have an old friend that lives in Oakland and worked in construction. He even delivered/poured concrete that was used in the refurbish job done when they moved back from LA. He said there was no way he would ever take his kids to a game, and didn't think he would feel safe there. The Raiders image attracts @$$holes and thugs from all over the Bay area to their games.
Most of the Bay area would been happy if they picked up and went somewhere else. Local football fans were happy when they were in LA, because we got better AFC West games. A lot of Denver, KC & Seattle fans got to see those games. Now they just get blackouts on Sunday afternoons with the Raider game shown at 11pm.
