Qianlong Chinese porcelain vase sold for £43m

A vase found in a house clearance in London has been sold for £43m, thought to be a record for any Chinese artwork.

The 18th Century Qianlong porcelain piece, found in Pinner, had been estimated to fetch up to £1.2m for the brother and sister who inherited it.

Banned?
Good on the people who sold it, but honestly, why would anyone spend that much on a fucking vase?

The Chinese trying to get their history back. Items like these were often stolen by the British from Chinese Royal Palaces during the Opium Wars and now that the Chinese have the money they are buying back their history whatever the cost and we'll keep on selling to them as now we are weak economically compared to them.

The one and only.
Strangely enough, the words "Made in Hong Kong" were printed on the bottom of the vase...

I have a few items made in China! I wonder if they want them back for top dollar...

I like artwork more than most people, bat at some point it needs to be realized it's just a piece of fancy pottery.

This reminds me of the priceless Ming vase from worms two. Anybody else, or am I dating myself?

on the fact that it has no historic significance.
does it??

Well according to Helen Porter of Bainbridges: ‘We are absolutely stunned. This must be one of the most important Chinese vases to be offered for sale this century.

‘In the 18th century it would have resided no doubt in the Chinese royal palace and was most certainly fired in the Imperial kilns. It is a piece of exquisite beauty. How it reached [London] is something we shall never know, and that it is in such fine condition is amazing. It is, quite simply, a masterpiece.’

I guess with China now being communist we forget they had a long imperial history that feels somewhat forgotten as the years pass us by
