Re: Q&A With Me, Holly Rydem!
I'm thinking now that Miami is out of the picture cause a hurricane just hit. I'd still really like to go to Dauphin Island, but there's not much beachfront room selection left... but at the same time, we'll hardly be spending any time inside, so how cares if it's a dump lol. I think I'd be more scared on a cruise than an airplane... and that's saying a lot because I'm terrified to fly!
Yeah that's always a concern when planning summer trips on the East Coast...You have to worry about the Atlantic hurricane season which officially begins on June 1st...Fortunately there are no more active Cyclones, at this time, but it always has to be at least a minor concern, because you plan trips so far in advance, and it can be a major hassle changing plans at the last minute because of the possiblity of bad weather...especially if you don't have good travel insurance.

I just did a little more research on Dauphin island, It looks like a pretty cool place, but I've never heard of it before you mentioned it... how did you get interested in going, do you have alot of friends that go there ? I had no idea it was so popular that the beachfront rentals would be sold out !,,,,but I found a little list of additional rent-by-owner property that could be promising !...

lol..Yeah I wish I had known you had never been on a plane before I mentioned that I don't like to fly....because the LAST thing I want to do is put any type of negative thoughts into your mind about it...I've flown alot, and I've NEVER had a bad or scary experience of any kind
!
I think what more turns me off these days about flying is all the added aggravation...all the excessive fear and security since 9/11...and the airlines keep getting greedier always trying to find new things to charge you for...such as additional bags, food on the plane, window seats...even traveling next to your companion can cost extra money on some airlines these days ! all the nickle and diming just takes some of the fun out of it for me...whereas on a cruise everything is included...they feed you GREAT food non-stop, and everything you need for entertainment is right there for you, plus you get to stop at different locations and do the tourist thing like shopping, scuba-diving, or just laying on the beach !
I'm not going to lie to you though, Holly, as I've gotten older, leaving the ground and going way up in the air at excessively high speeds is NOT something I take lightly...Unless I have an EXTREMELY good reason to fly, I kinda like to keep my feet on the ground as much as possible nowadays, if you know what I mean ! A cruise has its' risks as well, but I don't know, I can swim pretty well, so in my mind, I feel like I would DEFINATELY survive any accident at sea...but on a plane you have no control, if it goes down, you just go down with it,,,and to survive that would take a miracle...
Really, as i'm sure you already know, its all mental, accidents on ships or planes are statistically so rare, it really doesn't need to be something you spend alot of time thinking about...if its your time to go, then it's just your time to go...but the odds are overwhelming that no matter what type of trip you take, you will be 100% O.K. ! And, on a plane, getting there can be the most fun part, especially if you join the mile high club in the process
