PS4 Pro

anyone picking this up when it's released this fall? I'm going to hold up until I get my 4K tv and also waiting for Microsoft's super console.

If you already have a PS4, it's pretty useless IMO. I was at a PS VR demo and the rep even admitted this. It's funny that VR is one of the points they are pushing with the Pro, but the demo tour uses the normal PS4 and it works fine. And of course, 4K resolution means absolutely NOTHING if you're playing in VR.

I think the best thing to come out of the Pro is the corresponding PS4 price drop

Correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't even play games in 4K, right? It does them in HDR and apparently Sony is updating for all PS4 consoles to support HDR. A lot of people are also baffled that it won't even play 4K BluRay, for me personally I don't even buy any physical discs anymore, I stream pretty much everything.

Overall, can't say I was impressed with this "updated" PS4. I'll just stick with my first-gen PS4. Sony would have been better off just announcing this as a side-announcement to something else and not making it a big deal.

I also recommend Sony ship these with nothing less than a 1TB HDD, allow for external HDDs, and they need to really really reconsider their position with mod support for Bethesda (In case you hadn't heard, Bethesda called out Sony about their refusal to allow modding on Fallout 4 and the upcoming Skyrim remaster)

So......... what's in this ps4 pro thing?

It's a kinda-update to the PS4, like the XBone S. It plays all the same games, but basically it can handle games better at 4K if that's how you roll.
Otherwise... no point IMO

From what I understand, some of the upcoming games (NBA 2K17) will output native at 4K with HDR at 60 fps and upscale those that don't, with slight performance and graphical enhancements.

But unless you have a 4K tv, the PS4 Pro really isn't worth it.

HDR. that is the real difference.

what you notice in resolution differs from screen size and viewing distance but HDR is noticeable across the board.

still holding out until microsoft's offering.

I heard it was supposed to make the PSVR better along with the 4K thing. I am planning on passing on it. I think I am going to save up for a better PC and get the Oculus Rift if I can. After getting a taste of VR through the PSVR I feel the Rift can offer me more then PSVR could.

Is somewhere outhere.
I think I will leave the Pro alone and go for the Slim instead, as the prices for them are now at £200, where the Pro is still at £340. I haven't had a console since my PS3 broke 3 years ago, so the PS slim could be the best option for me.
