PS3 questions.

Thinking of getting a ps3 soon as i have the dosh, but i would like the answers to a few questions from those of you that have the system or from those in the know.
1.Does it play dvd+/- RW ect...?
2.Will it improve the quality of dvds?
3.How much of a difference will blu-ray make on a normal tv-420i?
4.How many ps2 games wont it play(you people in america and japan are lucky)
5.Whats the ****** difference in quality between HDMI & Component?

Theres not much differance in picture quality between HDMI and Componant, its just that HDMI can carry digital sound signals aswell. So HDMI is both digital Video and sound in one cable whereas componant is just video.

Im not sure if it can play those specific DVD formats and all i can find out about the upscaling (How much of a difference will blu-ray make on a normal tv-420i?) it depends on the TV set and the source of the high-def signals, i imagin your using a 480i Tv because of the question and it probibly wudnt make that much of a differance.

I am guessing your in Europe...so i am pretty sure the European PS3 can play around 1700 major PS2 titles....im not exactly sure though but its around that number...........and it does not improve the quality of DVD's

Yes it plays all formats. No to improved quality of normal dvd's. No difference on standard 480i tv's. Dont worry about ps2 games if they cant at the moment they will eventually. Question 5 has been asnwered.

1. yes
2. yes
3.none
4. it should play all
5. almost no difference

well actually no it doesnt make a difference with standard dvds, and to the difference of hdmi and standard, there is a huge diference in sound quality if you have a good digital reciever and good speakers for 6.1 surround sound.

There is rumored to be a firmware update in the summer, that will allow software UPSCALING on the PS3 using the CELL processor, as they reckon that the cell has a lot of unused processing power.
This will allow normal DVD's to be UPSCALED and (I think) Blue-Ray DVD's to be downscaled to 720p. Currently, Blue-Ray can only be dwnscaled to 1080i and your TV does the rest, as the PS3 does not include a scalar.

1.yes
2.No
3.None
4.Very few
5.Not much. I've got 2 HDTVs one supports HDMI and another doesn't. I don't notice a difference. If you have a really big HDTV HDMI will probably make a difference.

HDMI carries audio. A one cable solution is worth the extra price to me.

A PS3 is worth the money only if you own a 1080p TV.

Also, if you own a 1050 flat panel computer monitor, you can use PS3 itn native 720p, but it must be Premium Link Upgrade certified. I didn't know that, I thought I could play my PS3 on my monitor, but I got no signal through DVI and the S-VGA.
