As a resident of the greater Houston area I am most appreciative to those who have expressed concerned for us on this forum but I am far more struck by the lack of attention this disaster has gotten from the overall membership of this website. The greatest natural disaster to ever hit the US mainland and this thread and the other one I started on the main talk section have scarcely been a blip compared to virtually every other topic. I remember when Katrina hit back in 2005 this forum was totally in a buzz over it. Man, has this place ever changed. I guess I need to realize that, above and beyond anything else, at the end of the day FreeOnes is a pornography site.

Anyway, thanks so much to those of you who care. Anyone wishing to donate to the massive relief effort that it will take to help assist the thousands of displaced families in need of basic items like food, water, clothing and other necessities can call the American Red Cross at 713-778-8920. Your help will most definitely be appreciated by the citizens of southeast Texas. We're all struggling to pick up the pieces (literally) and find a way to move on. Houston and southeast Texas will forever be changed as a result of Hurricane Harvey, hopefully for the better. Right now, however, it's hard to see this as anything even closely resembling being a good thing. :crying:

I'm glad you both got through this and RIP to those who didn't but the death toll was remarkably miraculously low considering the severity of this storm and the extent of the flooding. And the people of Texas shined throughout.

I just think it's a sad commentary that, porn forum or not, this place nevertheless represents a demographic slice of humanity and to display such an incredibly dispassionate response to what will doubtless be historically considered the single greatest natural catastrophic event ever to take place on the US mainland is disturbing.

You Misunderstand. I am personally not looking for anything. In fact, I was one of the really lucky ones who didn't have their houses flood like a number of my friends and business associates did. I'm actually feeling a little guilty over it to be honest. I'm dealing with that in a private fashion that is irrelevant when it comes to discussion on this forum. However, I am looking for recognition of their loss and suffering. If you can't see that, I don't know what else to tell you.

So these "snowflakes" (not my term but one that is generally thrown around loosely on this forum so I'll go ahead and use it here) are so self-absorbed that they don't have room in their hearts or space in their lives for any empathy or concern for others? Thing is, that's possibly true and incredibly sad and discouraging if so. More to my point, though, this forum is a microcosm of that phenomenon. Take heart, however. My old hippie generation is slowly dying off so you won't have to be burdened with such mundane and unnecessary displays of emotion in the not-too-distant future.

Animus, believe it or not, you're still a relative newbie around here. You have no idea what this forum used to be like. And yes, whether someone needed support for something like a hurricane or something more personal, it was available here. I sometimes go through the archives just to remember all the far-out people that posted regularly once-upon-a-time, but were driven off by various preventable factors. Fuck, it's a long list. And I truly miss a lot of our former members.

Beyond Harvey: Deadly Floods Cause Havoc in Africa, Asia


LONDON —

Harvey has gathered headlines as the most powerful storm to hit Texas in half a century, but floods have killed many more people in Africa and Asia this year amid extreme weather worldwide.

Here are some of them:

South Asia

Floods in India, Bangladesh and Nepal have killed more than 1,200 people and affected 40 million, and are likely to intensify as monsoon rains continue, aid agencies say.
All three countries suffer frequent flooding during the June-September monsoon season, but aid agencies say things are worse this year, with thousands of villages cut off and people deprived of food and clean water for days.
Tens of thousands of houses, schools and hospitals have been destroyed as humanitarians prepare for more deaths, hunger and waterborne diseases.
"These are some of the worst floods we've seen in South Asia in decades, and the impact is likely only going to get worse," Madara Hettiarachchi, Christian Aid's humanitarian head in Asia, said in a statement. "Farms and livestock have been washed away, so food security is going to be a huge problem."

The worst floods in a decade struck Nepal, killing 150 people and destroying 90,000 homes.

Monsoon floods submerged more than a third of low-lying, densely populated Bangladesh, causing more than 130 deaths and widespread crop damage.

The latest disaster zone is Pakistan's largest city, Karachi, where overnight floods killed at least a dozen people, officials said Thursday.


West Africa

Widespread flooding has killed at least 40 people in Niger since the rainy season began in June, leaving thousands homeless, without cattle or crops.
Aid agencies are increasingly worried about waterborne diseases like cholera as the waters are not expected to subside until rains end in September.

A mudslide in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown, on August 14 killed about 500 people after heavy rains, with hundreds still missing.
Sporadic downpours continue, flooding parts of the coastal city and washing away more mud containing human remains.

Heavy rainfall also sparked a landslide at a rubbish dump in Conakry, the capital of neighboring Guinea, last week, killing 10 people, while at least 200 people are thought to have died in another slide in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.


Yemen

At least 18 people were killed in Yemen in flooding caused by heavy rains, the government-run news agency Saba reported Wednesday.
Aid organizations say the rains could exacerbate Yemen's cholera epidemic, which has infected more than half a million people and killed nearly 2,000 since April.
