Porn industry threatens withdrawal

Porn industry threatens San Fernando withdrawal over LA condom law

It has been the bedrock of the US adult film industry since the 1970s but porn companies are threatening to pull out of their Los Angeles home over a condom law.
Adult filmmakers are getting hot under the collar in after LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed a law backed by the Aids Healthcare Foundation that requires its stars to wear protection.

It has led to threats from some in the industry to move from San Fernando to neighbouring Simi Valley, which is out of the city’s jurisdiction but is also considering a similar move.

Does anyone have any idea how many jobs that involves? Can someone guess at a number? I have no idea, and would be interested to know.

Half of San Fernando Valley's population, maybe? Can you think of anything else out there? Because I sure can't.

I suppose there will be "trickle down" effect, too. Drug dealers, for example, will lose their clients...

It's not about loss of job. If the Industry feels that the law will affect their business and profit, then they may take a hike from US. Considering the economic condition, the shifting of facilities will cost very high and may not be viable alternative at all.
And then what? That is the question.

I know. I'm just playing to the stereotypes. :)

Thanks Erica, you saved my hand from getting hurt. I was going to slap dirk for that post (virtual slap of course). I wish all the OCSMs come back with their comments on the thread. Is it going to be a hide and seek game between the Industry and the Administration or the the Administration will fail to impose the law as VIVID implied?

I think "pull out" would be a more appropriate term. ;) I can definitely see them relocating to somewhere else. They don't really shoot that much in LA these days anyway.

I have been hearing things from others, it does not affect me at all. Some have other than LA studios, so we shall see.
I now usually shoot in Florida, Vegas, and Quebec. I have never done a shoot in California. I have many of my male counterparts wear a condom (or cap), now male talent and filming is a little different, with recent testing provided (so i can see, not only the producer). It all depends on what we need for the shoot, I mean if its a cream pie well then testing and lets go, lol. I prefer my tits sprayed or my face and mouth, so a condom can quickly be removed and then the $ shot done.

I basically worry about a trickle down effect that would make it a US regulation, now that is scary!
