I thought that the BBC series Premium Link Upgrade was interesting and well-done, with the caveat that they are (obviously, from the title) focusing on the seedier, more sensational stories.

Jenna JAmeson's book is a decent and easy read. Although some of the info is outdated by now, it's still very informal. I even learned a few things that I use to this day from this book.
